MARKET FRIDAY: Farmers Market in Gävle

TGI#MF!!

THANK GOD IT’S #MARKETFRIDAY!!

(#MarketFriday is a community-building project, initiated by the lovely @dswigle)

Today I am taking you on a tour through the small Farmers Market that takes place every week on one of the city’s central squares. (Technically, it always happens on Saturdays, but I am publishing this post today, because of the #MarketFriday)

Let’s start by checking out fresh produce. Mmm, lovely!!

A few stalls were offering freshly cut parsley, dill, and other herbs.

…as well as fresh veggies, flowers, and root vegetables.

This man was proudly featuring the thin crunchy bread famous in the neighbouring region of Dalarna.

The freshly baked bread looked very tempting.

I found a stall that was selling cold-pressed locally produced rapeseed oil. I always use it as a frying oil at home.

Some local bee-keepers were selling honey…

…and diverse household items and remedies made of honey. Like these deliciously smelling hand soaps to the right.

I hope you enjoyed visiting my home town’s market with me. Now I am going to visit yours! :D

Hej!

A wonderful variety of fresh offerings at your farmers market! I like to buy the local honey! Many people do not know that it can build up immunity to the local allergens (things that make you miserable) through the gradual exposure - as honey can contain trace amounts of pollen.

Love the crunch bread! Save me a loaf! Pretty please!

The rapeseed oil is used by this girl too, although I cannot get it locally. The only one I have available right at my local farmers market is a cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, which I have used as a substitute at times.

Everything is so perfectly fresh and wonderful looking. Thank you for the awesome post and for the continuous amazing participation in #MarketFriday! You are the best!

Tack så mycket!

No, you are the best, Denise!!

Thank you for hosting this wonderful initiative! I’m totally hooked by now! I’m thinking of visiting Uppsala – just to gather enough material for the next week’s #MarketFriday post, haha! :D

If you ever decide to visit Sweden, you can bring a few bottles of oil with you back to the US. :) It’s guaranteed GMO-free here! I will buy you a fresh loaf of crunchy bread from Falun then, okay? Because if I save one for you now, it’ll get all dry and mouldy before I get a chance to hand it over to you. :)))

How come you speak Swedish, by the way?

Have a Happy Market Friday!!

I have been to Sweden and sure I will make it back there again. I look forward to some of that GMO-free oil. Oh, the bread is a perfect combination to go with it. Yes! I shall put my request in far enough ahead and providing we are in the country at the same time. We both seem to have jobs that moves us about.

Why do I speak Swedish? Or please stop speaking Swedish? I was not clear on that. ;)

Thanks again and Happy #MarketFriday!

I'm sure you speak Swedish but you don't want to let us know (hehe!)

@bluemoon Hehehehe. It is probably as good as your Swedish!

Oh, I'm glad that we are equal to something!

LoL I really enjoy the sound of your Swedish, Denise! You have a funny accent, you know! ;-p Please keep practising – you’ll find it useful, when you’re visiting Sweden next time. (Although nearly everybody here speak some degree of English, as you know).

Why thank you! I was hoping you didn't notice! :P

I will be doing the Finland Sweden Norway region when I come. (only the part of Finland that speaks Swedish! LOL) I do know that most speak English, but also that is it polite to at least make a concerted effort to know a little bit of the native language.

They speak better English than most Americans

Then you should definitely check out Åland, when you visit! Situated between Sweden and Finland (half-way between Helsinki and Stockholm by ferry boat), it technically belongs to Finland. But it reality it’s semi-autonomous and self-governing. Everyone speaks Swedish and English on the island. They use euro (which is weird to me), but culturally it’s more or less just like Sweden. Very friendly people, great food (lots of fish and veggies), beautiful nature! Make sure you visit in the summer though! :D

Looks like a market that has a bit of everything

Great post for market Friday

You have posted a really nice #MarketFriday post too, @tattoodjay! I enjoyed reading it and looking at the photos of Manhattan and its residents.

Thanks KIndly :)

Wow...mf is great....l love them

This is the kind of market I like, not a lot of products but all are of great quality. The bread is amazing and I can feel the taste (I think I can feel the taste but I'm probably far from the truth). I like relaxed people , as they were going for a walk, not for shopping.

Yes, Gävle is a laid-back and relaxed city, with people rarely hurrying anywhere. Which why I enjoy living here – it’s my kind of pace!

Thank you for your thoughtful comment, @bluemoon!

It's my pleasure, your posts are always special.

Farmers market and growing microgreens has been on my mind as of late. Always amazing the effort people put into growing their own food while making it look so effortless.
