Church Architecture

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

It's weekend again and that's the time when we take some break from work.

Cultures and religions choose different days to rest but as far as I know, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are the ones I'm aware of. Maybe you know more about that topic and I would like to know more. It's not so fun to browse Wikipedia.

I find people in Spain are still very religious comparing some Middle and Northen European countries. In today's post, I want to show you some old architecture from Barcelona.

It looks great but when you find yourself standing beside these buildings you feel small and humble, religious or not.

Probably that was the whole purpose to build them at first place.

I noticed that the squares in front of churches and cathedrals were always packed with tourists.

They paid a lot of attention even with smaller churches in hidden streets.

For an amateur like me, it's interesting to see different styles and decorations, but there are centuries apart.

Some are much older than other.

Look at all these details.

Sometimes it's not easy to find them among narrow streets.

I hope you find my photos interesting.

Can you imagine that some of these churches were built before Christof Columbus even discovered America?

When I was in Dubai I saw a new mosque under construction at least every ten kilometers but no new church in Europe.

Hm, how strange?

Do you have any idea why is it so?

Take a good rest and prepare yourselves for the new week, my friends.

Sort:

There are recent churches, but they are not built with the same elegance and attention to detail.

The architecture in the old churches is just amazing! Nice photos!!

It's a decent and very interesting beautifully captured photography, your hand in photography is very beautiful.
Every photograph is decent and awesome.
Only I can say wow.
Best of the best.

Lovely pictures, well it's weekend and also World cup, hope you've got a chilled drink by your side for tonight's game @oldtimer? ;)

For whatever reason, my Steemit tends to shut down a lot whenever I try to read your posts recently, so commenting has been difficult.

I am not really a religious type myself, but I can't help but be amazed about the amazing architecture of churches.

Muslims have fairly strict praying times and have to pray once every couple hours, ideally in a mosque. That makes having more mosques in an area good for all Muslims because it makes their day to day life easier.

Meanwhile, christians in europe tend to have a hard time filling up the churches we have on sundays.

Hi sir I can only say that this is a work of professional, a master of mastery in clicking the best photographs, The architecture of the Churches is so unique and very very spectacular the photography you did is a work of far ahead.
Nice to see your work sir.
They are so old and it's the grandness of old architecture and their mastery in it.
It is strange to hear that people are not focussing ao much on making new and marvellous churches but it's a necessity of time to grow your religion on top priority.

Beautiful churches. I like the view down the narrow street of the bell tower!

I think you may not see churches being built in Spain because as you mentioned the cities are all very old and there are plenty of churches. The expanding construction in Dubai is breaking new ground and with Islam as the official religion of the nation there maybe be specific guidelines about adding mosques when developing residential properties... just speculation.

Great photos. You managed to convey the most characteristic features of the architecture of the past. I really liked the pictures. Thanks, @oldtimer

They sure are ancient and while they do look very interesting and quite nice by the way !

Absolutely beautiful architecture.
It really reminds me of the beautiful churches in Poland and I miss them a lot.
I hope one day I can take my boys to Europe and take them to some of the absolutely beautiful churches.
