Valentines Day is Over
Valentine's Day Is Officially Over!!!
I have to believe there are more than a few that feel happy about V Day being over!
My buddy @ddschteinn wrote a post here about some really old Valentine's Day cards. They reminded me of the days long ago when I was in kindergarten or maybe second grade. Back in those days kids just handed cards to your friends or latest crush. It all sounds innocent enough, but it bothered some of us kids that never got as many cards as the cool kids. It was rough because on one hand you naturally have the expectation and desire to get a decent number of cards. Yet on the other hand, and maybe from the previous year's experience, was the dread of not getting many cards at all. Thanks to the parents that had your kid give a card to everyone in the class!
Land of Misfit Toys
I think many folks today are bruised and battered by life. We all have painful memories that we would rather do anything but share. Mind you I do not have any answers for you. Apparently it is all just part of the human condition.
So if you have ever lost at love and felt like you are going to die from a broken heart, you are not alone. Maybe you just feel jaded by life so far, I hear you. Perhaps you believe commercialism wants just another of your hard earned bucks and you are so tired of it all. Just remember things will not always stay like this. Things can actually get better. Just be certain, as long as there is breath there is hope. Survival 101 according to the Old Guy LOL
My daughter took this shot years ago on a crappy camcorder, but I still like it :)
Thanks for stopping by!

I would guess that depends on how much of this commercialized (although once upon a time, a very romantic time) affects your life.
As a child, you couldn't help but be part of it, but, we have choices on how we celebrate or not as an adult.
I would rather spend the time, for it is the one precious commodity that I have no expiration date on. So every day is Valentines Day. Be as nice as you can, whenever you can... to whoever you can. KIndness counts.
Upped and Steemed after #MarketFriday Tip!
Yes I believe that kindness counts. I know I am not perfect and have a lot to improve on, but Im kinder than I used to be. :)
Stop scaring me like that. 😒
Scaring you like simpatico???
Knowing that you actually are kinder now than you used to be.
Sounds like you could have been mean! 😁
Im always just a teddy bear to you, Princess.
Oh using emojis now...very cool! 😊
kinder than you used to be! funny. interesting. commendable.
Well thank you ! Upped.
Right on time! I love this.
I've always felt with Valentines Day (or as I prefer to call it, Colored Paper & Self-Loathing Day) in particular- but also with all of the lesser Hallmark holidays- that if you feel genuinely bad about failing to live up to the oppressive expectation of performance on this specific day, you're doing something very wrong with the other 364 days of the year.
The way I rebel is to take random mandatory hooky days with my loved ones. Sometimes just because it's a Wednesday and the sun is out, we'll disappear together and do something totally decadent. It's important to snatch opportunities for making beautiful memories on days when there is zero pressure to succeed at it.
Absolutely!! I knew there would be someone on here that knows extortion when you see it lol!! Well done and upped!
Well written post about the day. Thanks for the shout out too ( :
Though I enjoyed my two small romps through memory lane, I realize the day can be painful for many people. As are many other holidays. Christmas for sure. And bring up a lot of stuff from the past. (not to mention the other part, ie: the $12 electronic card I saw in the store. Say WHAAT?)
I had a pretty good life overall, except the young romance stuff was a dud. But guess I forgot about some of that. I DO like some of the comments below, idea of keeping the 'love alive' ALL year. Seems more true and actually helpful that way in this big crazy world. As in, treat everyone well ALL the time. A lot of the Golden Rule stuff really did have a gold-hued lining.
Have a nice day my friend, and keep on keepin' on.
Certainly, I never once thought about those cards from so many decades ago until your post reminded me of them :)
Man, I'm striking out all over the place today with my OGP return-comments, airn't I?!
Your return comments are always the best! I love them and always upvote them! They never fail to add a chuckle or two!
My school in Russia did not celebrate V Day at all , so I did not have any cards:)) and still do not care much about it .
Oh I didnt know you were from there. How cool is that!
Yes ... I always wondered at the parents who did not have the compassion to understand how effected a child to be left out. I think most teachers these days either don't allow valentines cards in the classroom or insist that they are given to everyone. This is also done with birthday invites.
Thankfully for all of us Charlie Browns out there lol
Valentines Day can be heaven for the appreciated and hell for the rejected in many ways, it's true. It is the pressure to meet a standard, but then again isn't that the major curse of everything these days? Standards of appearance, of lifestyle, of achievements, you name it....
Speaking for myself I just lowered my expectations drastically lol ;-) That usually helps :)
Absolutely! In fact I did a whole video on that... Managing expectations being the key to happiness.
I will have to check that one out sir :-)
My video is just silliness, but your idea is right on!
Back in the day when I was in school, we did no celebrate Valentine’s in Argentina... and yes! you are absolutely right all this sb commercialization behinds is sick! So, yes! I try to keep it real with a nice homemade desert or nice meal for the hubby is good enough for us!
Very smart! Hope you have a good weekend! Upped.
Valentines Day was not a celebration in Eastern Europe in the Communist countries. After we went to capitalism, this holiday was also imported for obvious commercial reasons. I was too old to mean something to me. Still, I imagine how it was in your childhood. Children take everything seriously!
Oh yes... One quickly learned who was more popular, especially with the gals! Upped
Yes, I understand, I don't remember much. Thanks!
That bouquet of roses has such an old fashioned romantic feel to it, and your daughter did a great job on her shot too!
Thanks so much for those kind words! Much appreciated. Upped.
You are welcome! From the heart. :-)
Well, if valentine was still lurking about in any form, you definitely killed it withthe first pix on this post, lol.
Thank you! That was the intention!!
