Fall is in the Air

in #oldtimers9 years ago

Yep the cool nights are in full effect!

I suppose it is, like many things in life, a somewhat bittersweet occurrence. The nights here in Michigan have a bite of chill to them. Yes it is very nice for sleeping with the windows open. Hearing the sounds of the waves lap along the docks is a magical lullaby. Yet there is a bit of sadness in admitting Fall is in the air and that, after all, the endless summer does in fact end...

The Signs of the Times

This is a stand of sumac I believe. I have watched these tiny trees for years and they are a gauge of the season as reliable as any calendar. These are the very first trees to change color in my neck of the woods.

A Warning

Their leaves change to many different hues of yellow, orange, and red. (Notice the ones further up the hill are still green.) Maybe they are nature's early warning system, in place to give us all a heads up about what is soon to come.

I meant to get this posted for #treetuesday. Alas late is better than never...

I guess us old guys have learnt to use nature as a calendar! Here in South Africa the early tiny green leaves on a tree in our garden have told me that spring is around the corner! Even before the blossoms started appearing on the fruit trees! Your post is great indeed!

I know what you mean, in late May/June it seems like summer should last forever, but autumn always creeps in, slowly at first, then all of a sudden it's like hey, break out the flannel sheets! As a kid, summer felt like a year, now it feels like summer lasts about 3 weeks! It's so weird how perception of time changes.
Hope you enjoy the lullabye of the waves for as long as you can still keep the windows open.

Thanks for a great comment! I agree with this except that Michigan is a bit more "rougher" in that we go from cold to a week of Spring to full on hot. Then we go from hot to well it was in the 40's last night!!!! Could be 90 or 30 next week, or both LOL

@old-guy-photos so I am not the only one who feels like autumn is approaching! Thank you for sharing, because yesterday I really questioned my sanity :)

Beautiful! Would we appreciate summer if we didn't have winter?
I try to look at the whole circle of life. Try....I said, "try". :) Because I don't talk like that in January!

It's been a rather cool summer here in Indiana...but I bet the fall colors are going to be brilliant this year. Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures!

Hi there!

A very lovely set off photos you have taken here unfortunately it looks like Autumn is now on its way 😕

Enjoy the nice weather while you can but many more picture opportunities to be had with the colour change!

These are probably the red colorful flowers I have ever seen , I'd love to take a picture in front of some :D just gorgeous

I do love the colors of fall and the cooler temps but its also a sign that the greys and bitter cold of winter is not to far behind it, so I happy to not see any signs of fall here just yet

I love winter and fall. I hate being hot. I'm sensing the first signs of fall myself here in Tennessee. The sun's position shining through the house's windows at specific times has moved and the temperature is cooler. I'm excited to see colors like that on the trees here.

Those are amazingly blazingly pretty shots. Nice to have a seasonal barometer of the natural variety. As well as the sound of waves putting you to sleep. I could get used to that!!
