MELANIN
Melanin is a broad term for a group of natural pigments found in most organisms. Melanin is produced by the oxidation of the amino acid tyrosine, followed by polymerization. The melanin pigments are produced in a specialized group of cells known as melanocytes.
Eumelanin, pheomelanin, and neuromelanin are the 3 basic class of melanin.
Melanin is an effective absorbent of light; the pigment is able to dissipate over 99.9% of absorbed Ultraviolet radiation. Because of this property, melanin is thought to protect skin cells from UVB radiation damage, thus reducing the risk of cancer.
In human, melanin is the basic determinant of skin colour.it is found in the tissues lying under the iris of the eye . Found in the hair.also on the brain.
Melanocyte is the melanin found in the skin. Which are found in the beta I epidermis layer. They is difference in concentration of melanin in each individual due ethnicity or race .
MICROSCOPIC APPEARANCES
Melanin is brown, non-refractile, and finely granular with individual granules having a diameter of less than 800 nanometers. This differentiates melanin from common blood breakdown pigments, which are larger, chunky, and refractile, and range in color from green to yellow or red-brown.

Little or no melanin causes albinism
