Movie Review: Avengers Endgame (2019)
After my post about my impressions last week (to be read here), I went into the wide world of the internet and read a lot about Avenger's Endgame - about theories, which were based on and what could happen after Infinity War up to opinions about Endgame. All things that passed me by because I ignored everything that had to do with Endgame. I also didn't know that until last week Monday a spoiler block was imposed. Crazy...
The fact that the film is a complete success and that it also breaks records was predictable!
If you haven't seen the film, then stop reading here, because from here on there will be innumerable spoilers.
Story:
Endgame connects where Infinity War ends. Thanos has wiped out half of the universe with his snap, many heroes have simply disbanded and the Avengers have lost the fight against Thanos. The superhero world is hard hit, but the retarded heroes don't give up their hope. They want avenging! They can locate Thanos but they determine that Thanos destroyed the Infinity Stones. Out of frustration Thor kills Thanos.
Five years pass and the world has changed. The heroes have broken down and are struggling with the defeat. They must now deal with the losses and grief. They do this in very different ways until a returnee arrives in front of the door - Scott Lang aka Ant-Man who by luck returns back from the quantum realm!
Scott Lang, awakens the hope with the help of the quantum realm that they can reverse everything by travelling through time. The remaining superheroes reunite to make their way back to the past to get the Infinity Stones and undo everything. However, the superheroes do not expect that the Thanos from the past will put a spoke in their wheelhouse...
My Opinion:
First of all I have to say and underline that you have to see all previous movies of a Marvel Universe decade (!) to get along in Endgame. The film is the conclusion of all the stories, all the characters and all the actions told in all the Marvel films so far. If you don't know the previous movies, you will have big problems to follow.
The story of Endgame ties together all previous stories from the MCU that were already connected and interwoven, and brings them together in such a logical consistency that really everything seems so optimal and round that the film seems to you as if you were watching only a 90-minute film. The film lasts 180 minutes and this playing time flies by!
That the film would be an action-packed spectacle turns out to be wrong. There are of course countless action scenes, but the film deals with the downfall of the superheroes, how they doubt themselves in the defeat against Thanos. You can see as an example how Steve Rogers aka Captain America sits in a self-help group, or how Hawkeye becomes the bloodthirsty killer Ronin, who can't cope with the fact that his family has disappeared into thin air. Wankanda has lost his king and seems lost. Captain Marvel, who has to do her part, tries to clean up the chaos left behind in the universe. But there are also good changes. Bruce Banner and Hulk are the ones who cause an extreme surprise and you finally get to see the long-awaited Professor Hulk, who seems incredibly likeable. Tony Stark finally got his daughter after five years and doesn't want to give her up. But he fights inwardly against the defeat against Thanos. And that's just a few things.
There is a lot of emotional thigs to see, what never really came up in the pre-movies and what comes to an end in Endgame. Very moving moments, that really touch you, underpinned by corresponding orchestral music. You also get the usual Marvel-like jokes again and again, which pick up the dramaturgy and skilfully throw the viewer into an emotional roller coaster that lasts over 180 minutes. This is very often the case with Thor, who has transformed himself in the five years from a supernatural demigod to a Dude, who is allowed to meet his dead mother in the past to get the infinity stones.
Even Thanos is tired of his plan to wipe out half the universe. He's been following this plan for years. You can see his tired. He seems very sluggish and impatient. The fact that Thanos is killed by Thor in the first 20 minutes of the movie is such an unexpected and big surprise that you sit as a spectator and wonder what will happen now. The Russo brothers did a really great job. Then, when you realize that the Thanos from the past will thwart the plans of the superheroes, you get the effect of a repetition, which in reality isn't a repetition at all, but something completely different. The journey of the heroes into the past brings out something completely new. A more agile and motivated Thanos, who is still willing to fight, give everything to realize his plan. This difference between the two Thanos has been well implemented, as has the fact that the journey into the past changes everything!
The movie with its mighty running time of 180 minutes is not only a roller coaster of emotions, but also very powerful. You've got unexpected twists, always a moment with goose pumps and you see a final fight against the motivated Thanos from the past, which you missed in Infinity War, where the returned heroes and many more compete against the army of Thanos - in an Epic Endfight !
I didn't spoil everything with this review, not even half of what's going on in the movie. There is so much more to write, but I think it's enough. Avengers Endgame is a worthy conclusion of a decade of the MCU and not only the end, it is also the beginning of a whole new era.
The movie got 9 stars from me, if I could, I would give it 9.4 at IMDb.
Hello @oendertuerk I agree, to understand well you have to see them all, very attentive your opinion, but I like to do the same analysis several times because you always see things that we do not appreciate the first time.
@cloris, there's so much information and so much more details in the film, it's unbelievable. It's really impossible to see and process everything at once. It takes time. I watched Infinity War (for the 5th time!) one day before I watched Endgame in cenima and I discovered new things in the movie every time. That is crazy...
Greetings @oendertuerk a very accurate opinion, I help see things that I understood the first time, I will see ... Thank you.
Liked your review, Think i am going to rewatch it again xD
ty @keysersowze and honestly, I'm also thinking about to watch the movies again, and maybe in 4dx :)))
Yhea, good choise. It was an good experience for me, there are several actions in the movie and a lot happens during it.
I wil first continue watching my list of movie’s to see first. Waiting for John Wick 3.
from your story I began to be interested in watching this film. I am also curious because a few days ago this film is often discussed.
thank you brother
do it @altafalazzam, it is worth to ;)
Great review!
ty @klein7, I am thinking about to write more about Marvel and about Endgame, maybe a kind of clarification, because i've often read that many people didn't understand the movie at all.
11 years of character building within the MCU meeting a fulfilling emotional ending. It will be surely interesting to see who takes over in the next Avengers film. Anyway, nice review!
i'm also very curious @peanut8u and ty :)
I agree the more Marvel movies you have seen the better, but still I only rewatched the avengers movie before endgame and still had a blast, it’s action packed and emotional but also lots of laughs were had.
A great movie overall that I can recommend aswell.
