Hello, dear readers!

A long time ago, in an unknown galaxy, one inhabitant of the planet named Oleh was exploring a new social network for him, Reddit, where he learned about Steemit. After that, he signed up for Steemit and started learning the platform. He read the section of the Newcomers Guide, but he was not entirely satisfied with it. He wanted more. His searches led to a Google search. And so, when he asked Google something about Steem, he got a search result with a dozen posts, in the titles of which it was always written: Steem is dead!

I remember that this information upset me at the time. I thought I had signed up to a project that was really dying. After that I came to know about Hive and signed up there as well. But still, Steem won due to the fact that here I had someone to communicate with and this communication was pleasant.

Why am I writing this? I gave you an example of a successful media campaign. At the time, those spreading the word about the death of Steem were clearly successful. As a result, Steem suffered significant reputational damage. Against the background of such reports, new talented authors were unlikely to choose Steemit, and investors were in a hurry to get rid of STEEM tokens.

Time has passed. I entered a few searches today that were related to Steem and Steemit. There was no mention of death in the search results. It would be illogical, because now it is obvious that Steem has withstood the blow, even though it was forced to its knees. However, I didn't see anything interesting in the search results, only the official Steem site and a few sites with the price of STEEM. It doesn't look like the Steem blockchain is a successful growing project. And then we wonder why it is so difficult for us to attract investors, professional writers, journalists, etc.

In my opinion, we lack a systematic effort to inform the general public about what is happening in Steem. Our attempts to distribute posts in X, create accounts on Instagram, Facebook, attract traffic with the help of Google Ads - this is all good and important. But this is not enough.

You won't find any Steem news on any major cryptocurrency site. Why? Because no journalist will dig through posts on Steemit to find out what's going on here. They are guided by press releases.

I believe that we really need systematic work with press releases. It would be great if there was one press release every month. What is there to talk about? The Teaching Teams appeared? It is worth writing a press release about it. The design of the steemit.com site changing? Another press release.

A similar initiative was already voiced by @pennsif, but today I want to talk objectively. I searched a little in this direction and found a service that allows you to publish a press release in dozens of publications. However, the eternal problem of resources arises. For example, I filtered publications by language (English) and topic (cryptocurrencies) and got the following prices:

image.png

I'm sorry, but the prices are in Ukrainian hryvnias, but I will convert them to dollars for you:

  • Get your article on Coinmarketcap.com - 35 441 UAH = $858
  • Add press release to Crypto Daily - 32 191 UAH = $779
  • Get your article on Сrypto.news - 28 207 UAH = $683
  • Add press release to The CoinTelegraph - 302 058 UAH = $7309
  • Add press release to CoinDesk - 348 407 UAH = $8431

There are dozens of lesser-known mass media with lower prices.

I admit, I had intended to publish one article, but the prices really shocked me. Before the war, it would have been possible for me, but now, in the third year of a grueling war in my country, I have forgotten such words as salary and income 🙂.

However, for a project as big as Steem, press releases are necessary. But where to get the resources to publish them? A DAO could serve this purpose. We could schedule 12 press releases, one for each month. One would be good to publish in such a monster as CoinTelegraph or CoinDesk, and others in lesser known media. However, the barrier of more than 42 million SP eliminates the chances of obtaining funding for marketing needs. Unless several respected witnesses will be involved in this process.

Another problem: on whose behalf should such press releases be published? When news is published about TRON, we read that TRON FOUNDATION did this, TRON FOUNDATION did that, etc. It would be nice if Steemit, Inc. appeared in our press releases. I know the Steemit team prefers to stay in the shadows, but in press releases their involvement is necessary, for example they could approve the final edit of a press release or article.

While I was writing all this, my thoughts got confused and I forgot what I was supposed to write next 😄. In short, I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this matter.

Sort:

Interesting research on paid press releases.

I still have the Steem PR project in the background but so far, unfortunately, I do not see enough happening yet on the platform to attract crypto journalists.

Paying for Press Release inclusion is an option - but not one that I think would be at all worthwhile - especially with the prices you found. Paid PR's might well just be seen as advertorial content and not be given credibility.

We really need to run a standard PR service where we get coverage on merit because crypto-journalists find what we are doing interesting.

Unfortunately neither the Teaching Teams nor the incremental changes to the Steemit interface are likely to be deemed that newsworthy for the main crypto news sites.

News dApps, new games, the arrival of some known social media influencer, or reaching some major (and verifiable) metric, would be the sort of stories that might get news coverage in their own right.

I believe that will come with current changes that are taking place but it may be a while yet...

I agree, the prices are very high indeed.

I believe that will come with current changes that are taking place but it may be a while yet...

I am afraid that if we just wait, we may not see these changes. With the price of STEEM falling, people's faith is disappearing because white people still came here looking for a #betterlife. Perhaps it is worth involving freelance developers. So we could get new products and more and more developers would learn about STEEM. It might be interesting for some of them to further develop something for themselves in Steem. But, as always, everything hinges on funding.

I agree with you that a lot of positive changes are happening now, the community is getting stronger. I hope it will bear good fruit in the future. 🙂

Greetings friend @o1eh

I remember that ill-intentioned information war very well, from my point of view Steemit was never on its knees, it was just a sudden sabotage that prevented activity on the platform, but then a more human, social and humble Steemit began to be seen.

As far as I am concerned, and considering a bit of my ignorance about how the permissions flow in terms of the information that is shared, I think that the witnesses of the platform should review why so much information that is shared does not circulate on the web? I have done several search exercises on a publication placing the same title, accompanied by the author and the word Steemit, and even so, I cannot locate it from Google, this is something that is not normal, knowing that there is content with that data, information or labels.

The strategies for developing a new Steemit community have been bearing fruit, today we are stronger than 4 years ago, I think that we only need to effectively unite our efforts to make Steemit more popular.

I wish you success in your plans.

I remember @the-gorilla doing experiments and indeed posts from Steemit are very hard to find in google search. I think that he will be able to carry out some SEO optimization within his work on changing the interface.

Of course, we are much stronger now, and that is very gratifying. 🙂

This is just a brilliant idea. I support the idea. I think that there is simply no better advertising than an analysis of the work of an already existing "product". If in the end Steemit, Inc. will decide to promote the platform to the masses - he thinks this is an ideal option where to start!!!
