Report as Steem Representative, 25.05.2024

in Steem POD Teamlast month

Hello, dear readers!

Steem is not only about writing posts and commenting. This is a much larger and more interesting universe. In my report, I want to draw attention to the following.

Steem Curation Extension

This week I received a comment from @remlaps announcing that

I finally opened the github repo to the public.

What does it mean? This means that anyone can now install an extension to their browser that will help you see at a glance which posts are burning STEEM. It looks like this:

image.png

As you can see, posts where the beneficiary is @null are highlighted in orange. If a higher percentage of rewards are burned, the color turns red:

Also, the extension allows you to find out whether the post is being promoted, how much money was spent on its promotion:

I recommend anyone who plans to curate to install this extension from here.

I also recommend checking out another interesting extension from @remlaps: Introducing "Steem Follower Checker": A new Open Source browser plugin.

Promoted Page

Now it's sad to look at the promoted page. Only two posts here and they belong to @remlaps, the only author who doesn't forget to promote his posts. I think we should gamify this page, then it will be more interesting for everyone. We all come across great posts that we think are underrated. We could send such posts to the promoted page, burning a little SBD. It would be nice if the Steemit team visited this page and if they liked the posts, they would support at least one or two. We tried this once and it was quite successful.

Bookmarks for Steemit

I think you are all familiar with the wonderful development of @moecki. I will not tell here what it consists of, you can read about it in the posts of the author himself. I just want to remind you that it has not yet been confirmed by the Steemit team. I decided to remind you about this just in case, maybe the Steemit team forgot about it, because we are all human.

Bookmarks will greatly improve the interaction experience and will be one of the few advantages of the Steemit platform over its competitors. Therefore, I urge the Steemit team to consider this issue as soon as possible.

I also urge absolutely everyone to vote for the witness @moecki. It's a shame for us as a community that such a dedicated and talented developer and blogger is only ranked 58th.

I admit, my post is not much like a report. But I hope you all know what I'm doing here. 😀

Thank you!
I have to admit, I still don't understand that Burn 25% movement. Well, I understand its financial goals but personally I question its efficiency.
I just did an experiment and checked the top trending posts on steemit, none of the first 20-30 posts has it. So burn 25% looks like to be designed for those who have small or no stake and the whales just don't do it. So, that all just feels like another way to have the attention of the curators.

I ask myselft, what would prevent a user who does that burning for months to do a full power down, withdraw everything and then repeat the cycle? 'Cause I am sure the small guys try to mimic the success of the big players by doing what they do and follow the example ;) So at some point that burning won't feel right.

I believe the content shouldn't be estimated mainly by what has been set to be burnt and while I see the usefulness of this extension I think some good content will not be supported especially when the moderators are busier, right :)
Just my two cents, wishing you a great Sunday!

So, that all just feels like another way to have the attention of the curators.

I felt that way right from the start.
I also never understood what the point was. What is better? Not producing Steem at all because the content of an article doesn't invite votes, or burning Steem that wouldn't have existed under "normal" circumstances?

I really couldn't tell which one of those is better :)
Burning is always helpful long-terms as it decreases the inflation of STEEM as it is, in my understanding, endless, as contrary to Bitcoin, STEEM doesn't have Max. Supply, right?
Perhaps much better for the future of STEEM would be if there are top investors who aren't faceless and famous people are somehow attracted to the blockchain.
I read crypto-related news on a daily basis and I never saw anything related to STEEM, like... ever.
Publicity is good, right? However, if the big whales here don't want such publicity and also prefer to rather stay anonymous forever, then this raises some serious questions... Anyway :)

I see there are users who upvote only posts with Burn 25% and this already changes the landscape a lot...

You're right, none of the big players ever burn anything. They don't want to lose their money. And they don't seem to care about the long-term prospects of the STEEM token.

question its efficiency

It is impossible to say that burning does not give anything at all, because burned tokens will not be sold. But yes, this is more of a way to attract curators than to achieve real market goals.

I believe the content shouldn't be estimated mainly by what has been set to be burnt

I still hope that someday we will get closer to the point where the more interesting the content, the higher it will be rewarded. Only this approach can create a healthy economic model. Competition for quality always leads to the movement to the best.

What are you talking about, bro? We as a community are causing the shame? What a load of bollocks! It's the Steemit team that's responsible for everything here. Any encouragement for an article about a vote that doesn't come from sc(s) is worth nothing. So a Witness vote from the community isn't worth anything either. Then I can let go of taking responsibility from the outset...

Oh, sorry, I forgot that we're not in the Oasis here...
Yes, it's a shame! Community, it's a disgrace! Finally learn to focus on ourselves again, finally learn that a strong community can achieve a lot!

I wish steemcurator01 would write an order for everyone to vote for witness @moecki. It would be fun to see the downpour of votes 😁 (he could do it in the Oasis🤣). But even that wouldn't change anything. Big account votes are needed, and they don't seem interested in that.

strong community can achieve a lot!

It really is, and for now we have what we deserve 🤨.

Haha, go ahead! Make the suggestion. You’re SR, everyone listens to you... ;-)

Thank you for drawing attention to the pending review once again. I have simplified the pull request a little today. I hope this will make my code easier to review.

... and thanks for the kind words :-))

I have simplified the pull request a little today.

I do not think that this is the reason. I have the impression that technical issues at Steemit Inc are handled by one and a half employees, and probably half-time 😥.

That may well be possible. At the moment, checking the Gorilla Code is obviously taking up a lot of time :-)
