A Surprise in the Garden
Probably, each of us has a corner in the garden, where we rarely look. I have one behind the garage. A surprise awaited me there today.
This morning I went to the garden not to pick fruit, but to find some old board. Such things that are no longer needed, but I don't want to throw them away because they can still be used, I put them in the least visible place behind the garage. Of course, I rarely go there. But today I needed this place.
After coming here, I forgot what I needed here from what I saw. Here, a small area of land was like a carpet covered with mushrooms. It was the honey fungus. These are autumn mushrooms that, sensing the approach of winter, grow anywhere. They usually grow on old stumps, but sometimes they can grow just on the ground.
The fact that these mushrooms grew in the garden is not something very surprising. They often grow in gardens, especially if the gardens are located close to the forest. The forest is located no further than 300 meters from my garden. I looked around the garden several times hoping to find honey fungus, but never found anything. Since it is already the middle of October, I thought that mushrooms would not grow in the garden already this year. That's why it was such a surprise to me.
I immediately rushed for a bucket and a knife and began to cut the mushrooms. And only after that I thought that it was necessary to photograph my find. Therefore, I can only show you the final result:
As you can see, without leaving my own yard, I managed to collect a full 5 liter bucket of mushrooms this morning. I have not yet decided what I will do with them, but most often this type of mushroom is pickled here. You can also make gravy from them. There are too many of them for gravy, so I guess I will pickle them anyway.

I live in a region surrounded by forests. Traditionally, many people go to the forest to pick mushrooms here. My dad taught me the same way from an early age. That's why I know which mushrooms are edible 😀

What a luck you have. My garden is small and there is no corner I or my dog forget.
I used to live in the city, in an apartment. I didn't have a garden, but I had a small country house with a garden, but it was difficult to get there. Then I bought a new apartment, but the war started and I could not arrange a new home. Therefore, I had to temporarily move to the village with my wife's relatives. That's why I have a garden now :)

So lucky you are! Mushroom gravy sounds yummy. I plan to start a proper mushroom garden 🍄 by planting the mushrooms I grow in boxes just under trees.

Unfortunately no, I don't like to eat mushrooms. I just love to collect them. But my relative enjoyed these mushrooms.

(When I was a child - just a few weeks ago - I disliked mushrooms too. Since I grew old - very soon to come! - I like them.)
