Snorkeling and Having Fun in Kona, Hawaii

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

A friend of ours invited us to come visit her in Hawaii a while back. She lives in Kona in a really nice neighborhood on the beach; which has a great little private area where one can snorkel. I was blown away at how much could be seen in such shallow water! Most of the area where we were snorkeling was no more than 3 or 4 feet deep.

All I had with me was my Samsung phone, so the images aren't the best. But have a look!

We followed this guy around for a while. He didn't seem to care...

I couldn't tell if the turtle was annoyed with us, liked us or simply was too slow to swim away from us quickly. I didn't get any pictures of it, but he was very casually swallowing little fish as he/she swam along. Seems like the good life to me!

There seemed to be an endless variety of fish pretty much anywhere that I looked.

We were stunned by the diversity all in one small area. The crazy thing was that if you stood up, it just looked like an ordinary beach with not much going on - but just a quick peek under the water told a completely different story.

Of course we had to take a couple of goofy selfies....

Here are some views from the back porch of our friend's ridiculously beautiful home.

And of course we sat in that very spot until the sun set. Maybe one day when Crypto goes to the moon and beyond, I'll buy a place like this and everyone is invited to celebrate!

Hey, a man can dream, can't he? :)

You were using your phone underwater to shoot the photos?

Did you go and check out the lava flows?

hi, @leoplaw! Thanks for stopping by. Yeah, I was using my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Technically you aren't supposed to submerge it, but it is waterproof up to a certain depth. You can't touch the screen underwater but you can click shots by using the volume button. It worked surprisingly well!

The downside, which I learned in the evening, is that you can't charge it with any moisture in the usb plug so I had to use a blow dryer on it which was a pain. As for the lava flows, no we didn't get a chance to see any active ones. The friend who invited us to her how has invited us again and we'll probably go see some lava this time around. I'll be sure to take lots of pictures!

Very nice. I like your writing. I want to read more from you. Your photos of traveling were awesome.

@sheikhshahin thank you for visiting! I appreciate your comments. I always take lots of pictures when I travel. I am glad that I have a good place to post them now!

Hello and thank you for your comment! And greetings from California :)

Thank you for your welcome @nuthman. I am very happy for that. I am not very good at English, if one day I am mistaken in a sentence, please remind me. I use Google Translation to interact with people, including you from California. Hopefully I and you can be good friends here. Thank you for everything.

Thanks, and maybe I am a bit naughty. Lol
