Car Show at Point Fermin, Los Angeles California

in #blog6 years ago (edited)

There is always something going on here in San Pedro, which is a neighborhood in Los Angeles right on the border of Long Beach, CA.

Often we are working from home and actually have no idea what is going on outside, even though there's something happening just about every day. Usually we can hear music outside so we'll say something like, Hey, let's go check it out!

Then 5 hours later, we go outside and it is all over. You snooze you lose I suppose.

Well, on this particular day, a local band called the Topics had asked Amanda if she would sing with the band, so we went down the street to Point Fermin to check it out.

Point Fermin is on a cliff adjacent to the ocean shore and there is a stage in the park area where bands can play. The stage area was completely surrounded by a massive car show with vendors everywhere that day. By the time we arrived, the music was in full swing, so Amanda got up on stage and joined in!

Oh yeah, I guess I never mentioned that she is a singer as well as an artist and animator. Well, there you go. She's a multifaceted person.

One thing that I really love about this neighborhood (it's technically a neighborhood, but large enough to be its own town) is the interesting eclectic group of people here. They are quite different than the rest of LA. To give you an idea, check out these two people. I see them everywhere around town. I think they call the girl Flame. haha!

Check out this crazy little orange buggy looking thing. Pretty unique and interesting, huh?

One thing about San Pedro is that they love their low riders. I always feel like I have gone back in time to the late 80s or early 90s around here. All the music you hear on the streets here is from the 70s to to 90s. Plus everyone dresses as such as well.

They love their Impalas around here. Usually the 63-64' models as made popular in the 80s and 90s. I like them as well, but I also really like the older ones like these:

Most of the cars were restored to look somewhat original, while some had pretty customized paint work like this one:

Two types of cars that I've never been a fan of are station wagons, and El Camino (Cruck) type cars. Even the old ones don't look very nice to me. And of course, I'm not really into the whole tricked out hearse thing either. A lot of people like them, though!

I do feel like a lot of the old pickup trucks have a lot of charm, though, as well as utility!

It's really wild to me how we have these little pockets of communities here in Los Angeles. As you drive across the many towns here with artificial borders, you can see the personality change. Especially in the beach towns like Hermosa and Redondo Beaches. You can see the style and attitude change as you move from one to the other. Especially once you get to Manhattan Beach which is one of the most expensive places to live in America. It's kind of funny since Hawthorne is right next door and is a really poor area.

But rich next to poor is pretty common I suppose. Anyhow, I hope you liked looking at the cars. Have a great start of the week!

Sort:

Really, sometimes when I see these cars I just want to steal one of them and drive around.. Just for a day. (probably a bad idea lol)

By the way @nuthman do you have a discord or something I can contact you on? I wanna discuss important things in life with you. Not really, but still, anywhere I can write to you?

Yeah man, I've always wanted a 1964 Impala myself. Those older cars are so much more fun to cruise around in. They are huge though, like boats!

Of course! I am not on Discord every day, but I am trying to get on more often. The problem is that I don't do my actual work and spend all day screwing around on the internet! So yeah bro, hit me up: my username is nuthman#0989

Awesome car's friend... Amazing collections of cars specially small orange car its charms of this car show. i really enjoy all the photographs.. Thanks for sharing with us...

You're welcome, @tussar11! I am glad you enjoyed looking at them. They have these types of shows here all the time and they are always a lot of fun. Just a couple of weeks ago they had a super car show with Ferraris and such. I missed it though!

Beautiful cars, I wonder that if they have soft suspension though. Their owners really have spruced them up with a nice build from wax to clean engines.
In my country rich and poor people live side by side.

You know, the suspension is definitely different on the older cars.. But honestly I prefer them for just cruising around town. Although newer cars are a lot better for long distance traveling.

I adore old cars too. Those were the good old days!

Yes they are great! I used to have an old Impala and I loved it. These old cars have so much more character than the new ones.

Wow! A massive car show with the melody of the band topics along with your wife Amanda's rythem. You mush have enjoyed a geart day mate! Amanda is really a multitalented person and i am very glad about that. I already knew she as a renowned artist but also a great singer? Wow! U should be very proud of her! And like you neighbour 'flame' too! 😅 hope u r getting a real positive vibe from your new neighbours and also a great pleasure of the sighting of those bizzare cars! Stay well mate n keep posting

Haha, thanks, mate. Yeah, I see those 2 everywhere. I've never met them though! You know there are always those people around town that are sort of part of the background.

It was a great day!

Hi @nuthman
Really beautiful cars. It seems like old model cars with latest engines.
I think daily you are witnessing new adventurous things. And enjoying a lot.
Thanks for this beautiful article.
Thanks.

I wish that I were witnessing new adventures everyday, but I just take a lot of pictures and compile them into stories over a period of time. It's actually hard work some days! But I am starting to realize now that I've actually done a lot of interesting things in my life.

I need to move to San Pedro. I'd have the Flame's for neighborgs and a bizarre convertible!🚀

Totally.. It's a requirement to have a bizarre car if you live here!

Ahhh! Hey the Flame girl looks like Peggy Bundypeggy-bundy-costume-1.jpg

Haha! Yeah, pretty much.

Wonderful car nice blog
