Corn is a plant native to the American continent, it has the appearance of a giant herb and bears a compound fruit that is edible.

Corn has been the main source of food for all the diverse populations that inhabit America since time immemorial.

Its scientific name is Zea mays and in the food groups it is classified as a cereal, in some indigenous languages of Latin America the word corn means sustenance of life
