Users of Wechat's social media platform developed by Chinese Internet giant Tencent has broken through the billion mark. Tencent CEO Pony Ma Huateng said the highly popular instant messaging application has now expanded to a number of countries.

Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the XIII National People's Congress (NPC) meeting in Beijing, he said he was applying for licenses in some countries to be used for payment transactions. "Malaysia has licensed it as a third party payment application to Wechat," said Ma, who is also the NPC delegate, as quoted by People's Daily on Saturday (10/3).
