Kasuga Shrine In Nara
Hello everyone,
I’d like to show you a sightseeing spot not far from Osaka. Have you ever been to Nara? Just take the express train about 40 minutes. Nara has a lot of deer, so the deer is a symbol of Nara. Be careful when you are walking with food, they might bite it from your hands.
Kasuga Shrine is a Shinto shrine in Nara. It’s a spectacular shrine, and there are 3,000 lanterns in Nara Park along the walk to Kasuga. Those lanterns were donated by a citizen to show thanks and support to the shrine, which was established at the same time as the capital of Nara, and was the tutelary shrine of the powerful Fujiwara family during the Nara and Heian periods. When you walk through the inside, some areas are free of charge and some areas you have to pay.
The lanterns are only lit twice a year during two Lantern Festivals, one in early February and one in mid August.
Various type of lanterns at Kasuga shrine.
Stone lanterns along with paths.
