Hooray! I Received More Fan Mail!
Today, I'm going to write about, about.
As a Canadian, I already know, many people south of the border will think I'm saying a boot. I don't know what they are talking about. It's about time someone told me. About, a boot, about, a boot, about, a boot. Notice the difference? Apparently, many Americans don't.
Oh well.
If I were to go for a walk in the park, that would be acceptable human behavior. In Boston, they go for a whack in the pack. I cannot do that in Canada without being arrested.
A walk in the park and a whack in the pack apparently means the same thing somehow. Now, I realize it may seem like I don't know what I'm talking about but trust me, I do.
Dis, dat, dese, dose and dem over dair. This, that, these, those and them over there.
Sometimes I catch myself using the 'd' words in normal, everyday conversation. That's how the old guys and descendants from Europe speak when they're sitting around having a coffee with friends here. If an American heard them, they might think they walked into a hip hop rap battle but I insist a dog is still a dog here and everyone can relax.
I was once traveling and while in the USA, I needed to stop for supplies. I placed everything on the counter, as we normally do here in Canada. The store clerk asked me if I'd like a sack. I instantly pictured a rugged, woven potato sack of sorts and declined the generous offer. That was the first time I had ever been offered a sack, anywhere. I stood there waiting for this woman to bag my stuff up. She stood there looking at me as if were some sort of a crazy person. I had to ask for a bag. She rolled her eyes and said, "you sayed you di-ent wah-won."
Protip: If you need help in Canada, do not ax for an amberlamps. All that does is add to the confusion.
"Harro! May I take yo odour? Very goo! One dinnah fow-fow!"
So now, maybe you're giving me the eye.
"Gasp! You cannot talk like that, crazy white man!"
I speak with an accent everyday whether I like it or not. Everyone else has an accent, whether they like it or not. Me, while utilizing observational humor to point out this fact, does not equate to being involved in some sort of hate club. Imitating an accent is not a racial slur in person or in writing and especially when something was intended to be funny. You can make fun of my boots all you want, if you catch my drift, eh.
Flak
Did you read Haffanower? Were you offended?
Someone was!
In private, I received a good tongue-lashing from someone who would seemingly prefer to see things like observational humor cease to exist. A censor who apparently reads at a grade fucked level attempted to tell me how to write comedy, how to act, how to say things, what should be said, what shouldn't be said, where I went wrong, what should be changed, blah-blah-blah.
Not Happening!
They said the moment I wrote, "half a nour would be dair," was the moment they knew I was attempting to insult a particular culture. This individual even attempted to tell me which group this supposed "insult" was directed at.
All they did was prove they know nothing about the culture where I live and have never met one of those old white guys who speaks like that.
I did not respond to anything they said because I had no reason to defend myself.
If you really pay attention and read between the lines; throughout that entire story you'd notice how I take lighthearted shots at all kinds of people who jump to the wrong conclusions and end up making asses out of themselves. I did that on purpose because I knew, eventually, one of those people would show up and do a little demonstration for me.
Thank you for existing. The comedy writes itself when you're dealing with observational humor.
Just Buy Me a Few Beer
I can't seem to stop myself from imitating an accent or two after a few drinks.
Since when is that racist? Who shut down Robin Williams and called him a racist? Nobody. He did accents well and made a fortune acting like other people while everyone laughed. Who shut down Dave Chappelle when he went on stage and performed his white guy accent? Nobody. A majority black audience all laughed and cheered when Dave did that. Who shut down that entire show to prevent a hate crime from occurring? Nobody.
Why?
Because, reasons.
I already know what I do here is risky and have already mentioned how comedy is often misconstrued. It's my words versus someone's reading comprehension. It's my style of blogging/performing versus what everyone else is accustomed to seeing in your typical blog.
It does become frustrating at times dealing with people who front as intellectuals all while watching them demonstrate how they cannot read. Of course, since humor is my thing, I just can't help but laugh at them. It's funny to me to watch people say they are one thing and act the opposite. So what, deal with it.
I realize I could easily sit here and write top ten lists about how to be organized and live a better life. I know I can sit here and write how-to articles that get thousands of hits from people searching that particular topic on Google. I'm aware I could be here writing about cryptocurrency and that would increase the odds of getting a few more high powered votes. I don't have a problem with that stuff, whatever floats your boat, but I don't want to fake it until I make it.
I'll be busy defending the arts and entertainment here until my dying days. I had to break down a few barriers just to be able to do what I do here and I refuse to watch those walls get rebuilt. I'll be encouraging others to follow this road I'm on, if they think it's for them, until I finally decide to retire. Nobody here is going to be able to stop me from being who I am and they stand zero chance of being able to tell me how to write comedy.
Successful acts in this business sell out theaters and even stadiums. Comedy writers work on the material that we all see on television getting laughs and high ratings. If something like Saturday Night Live was uncensored, more people would be glued to that show every weekend. Here, just like a stage, I have total freedom to do and say what I want to get laughs.
If my work along with all of the other entertainers here ends up drawing thousands of people to this platform, we won't require a thank you. We're just doing what we do and knew it would happen all along.
To the Heckler
Yes, I can call you names too.
I respect the fact that you decided to blast me in private rather than making a scene under my blog post. That took courage. We all know what happens to someone who enters a comedy club and decides to take everything seriously. We all know what happens to that heckler when they decide the show should be about them, their personal standards, and not comedy.
If you don't know, allow me to explain.
We simply tear a strip out of your ass until you become so ashamed of yourself that you feel it's only best to leave, or the bouncers step in to offer you assistance in making the right decision to simply leave a world which you cannot comprehend.
This entire thing was just a fancy way of telling you(the heckler) to fuck off. I hope you enjoyed it.
Have a nice day!

Here some more fan mail!
Is this all art my eyes get to consume today? Do I have resort to my own creations??? OH god not again…

Ok so I lied. I drew this a few months back for a contest. See I told you those blasted trees are everywhere.
I love New Zealand
I love people from New Zealand. Sometimes you just don’t know if they saying “deck” or D!ck” lol
The good part starts at 2m10s in darn you platform for now starting at the right time!
this cracks me up to much. I use to watch this guy live over on twitch… Everyone was always trying get him to say “deck” lol.
Sometimes I want to murder people
I grew up in Minnesota. And every time someone says “ Minnesota eh” in some crack out accent I just want beat them. I lived a few hours from the Canada NOT IN CANADA YOU SOB!!!!!
I've been working on some new stuff to look at. I might be going dark soon. My energy is depleted. I nearly spent a good hour responding to a moron in private but decided there's no point. I hope this was at least a bit funny. I wasn't trying to be dead serious here.
I know that Minnesota accent well. I know what you mean though. Some people don't approach the accent humorously. They're mocking. I used the Aboot example because that's the one americans like to tease us with. It doesn't offend me... they're the one's whackin in the park! It's only natural though, to find accents humorous. I moved west for awhile and probably sounded like a hick to those people. Eventually, I caught myself sounding like them. It's only natural. If we, as a society, can't laugh at ourselves anymore, we're fucked!
oh I laughed off at least 2 pounds off my fat behind my good sir! Keep it up :)
Keep on jigglin!
..yup... I totally just said that. Oh boy....
I never knew what the Minnesota accent was like till I watched Fargo. But I really like it! You would really like my New Zealand accent too, I hope. When I was in Las Vegas (my only time in the States), I was astonished when a man in a shop raved about how lovely my accent was.
While I have never been to New Zealand I have fallen in love with the many wonderful photos of nature that come out of there. It’s on my list one day to see along with Iceland.
Always fun to interact with people who have a different accent. No one really notices till they interact with someone who speaks a little bit different!
Yes, Iceland sounds like it would be a fascinating place too. You'll have quite a bit of travelling to do, visiting both NZ and Iceland, at opposite sides of the world.
OH god he’s been silent for too long after upvoting. I am fearful for my meow.
Yes.
No. Well, yes, but not by your portrayal of a character with an accent. Actually, no. Not by Haffanower. I rather enjoyed that.
No; what's really offensive, here today, is someone using the word "sack" to refer to a grocery bag. Who does this? Anyone? I think you made this up. Surely, nobody calls a plastic grocery bag a sack. Sacks are large, crudely-sewn cloth bags used for holding useful items like sunflower seeds, magically never-ending supplies of Christmas presents, and deez nuts.
... take Southpark for instance. I didn't go beyond that with some of the subject matter in Haffanower. I'm sure Southpark and the networks get many letters. For all I know there's an article somewhere on steemit bitching about me. Whatever. The intention was comedy. This wasn't the first time someone contacted me about something I said either. They're not happy with me right now for writing this.....
Do trolls fit in sacks too? Fuck sakes... I'm tempted to screenshot some of this shit and share it. They're trying to stand up and be the voice of good, for no reason, while saying nasty shit that doesn't make them look good at all. Just being trolled I think.
Rambling.. slightly annoyed. No cigarettes. Stupid sacks.
But thanks to heckler you've got such a great opportunity to go with a flow write another post.
I'm crying lmao
Tried to immitate the accent of a chimp once, all I got in response was that it started to jerk off. Could see that it was bored as hell. Never went to a zoo again after that. Seeing locked up animals just makes me sad.
We have a local accent here, lotta gruntin n stuff, we even have a hard time understanding each other. Then there's other parts of the country that have language-fascists, as they speak the kings Nederlands. Stiff upper lip and clinched asses, that kind of thing.
When I speak English its nowhere near Oxford, more somewhere inbetween Dublin and Glasgow. So I could be fan of the Rangers and Celtic at the same time. Some think I jerk them by speakin in dat wee.
Think that is kind of offensive. Bit stiff upper lip even. Kennahelpat, iz da wee aye speek da freekin langoo. Bonsj of fekkin assitpizzas.
Would like to speak English in that 'taa taa' way, even only to be able to mock them with it, buddakaant. Shait...
Guess my own Oaldamster patter gets in the way of being able to do that.
Fog the hecklers, I'd say. May their assholes be clinched even tighter after reading this.
Man! This one caught me right off guard. Or should I say dis wun cot me ri-toff-gerd. Do you know how hard it is for me to NOT sound like that! Yes! By the sounds of it, you do! In Edmonton we had a lot of people from Somalia and area moving in. They had their own accent. One time a dude sat beside me on the bus. I was expecting a that accent, because, well, reasons. He said hello to me in a fucking London accent. My head nearly exploded! I survived, but I could barely understand a damn thing he said. Behind me was a Jamaican. How did I know? Because, reasons.
In a way we are all blessed with some accent, it is part of what makes us unique. Life would be a boring monotone experience if we did not have it.
Cheers to accents and humor, being the shortest distance between people!
Well it's quite funny but it is a fact that any Language has different Accents and Tones. I have been studying Sociology (in cultural aspects specifically ) in which i read a lot about different Languages. Although English is not my Native nor National Language but still i managed to learn it from My School and College then University.
I have always a huge confusion regarding "But and Put" like But seems Batt while Put is not Patt, Quite similarly Psychology is Sy ka logy but why not Pasiy kalogy I have always a big confusion.
But later in my lie i learnt every Language has it's own ways, traits and aspects...
By the way i really enjoyed it and yes I do Admire your write up as well Amazing :) @nonameslefttouse
Stay Blessed, Steem On!
I have to first apologize. I didn't you know mentioned me in your introduction post until now. I stopped in and made sure to give you a bit of a tip for that and I'm following your account now. I need to pay more attention. I'm busy but I won't make excuses.
I used to work with a few guys from your part of the world. They moved to Canada, they hate the winter. I can already hear your accent if I think about it. I'll tell you a story.
I was their boss. No matter what, they would not speak to me like a human. It was yes sir, yes boss, okay boss, and that would drive me crazy! One day they were outside enjoying fresh air and a cigarette, laughing, talking, having a good time until they saw me coming. I didn't want to kill the party so in their accent I just started talking. One guy almost fell down laughing, another one spit out his cigarette as his jaw dropped. I kept going in that accent until they nearly pissed themselves laughing. After that, they stopped talking to me like robots, they felt comfortable around me and everyday after at work they just seemed to be more at ease. They didn't fear the boss anymore. Even started calling me by my first name which was what I preferred. Also, because I accept these accents and can understand the words being said, it makes listening a whole lot easier. I asked one if he could do my accent. He did it, and holy crap do I ever speak slowly and sound like an idiot! LOL!
This is your affection that you took time and gave me tip on my blog.. Really means a lot :)
Hahahahahahahaha Oh My God!
Actually frank behaviour changes many things seriously. It is also a fact based thing that when someone mimics the accent of others, a HUGE LAUGHTER starts. It happend with me as well when i was at my University. There i met a very diverse cultures and yes i can relate your story with mine :D :D
You are a very Lively Person, I am Really Glad that we are alike minded <3
Stay Blessed, Steem On!
Hahaha, another hilarious post. You reminded me the people of Scautland maaaite! I have a son and an ex-girlfriend (my mom's son apparently) in England and i visit pretty often for obvious reasons. I remember the first time we went to Scotland i was thinking out loud in my mother language (Greek) " Speak freaking English you people, I don't understand shite." An older lady heard me (we were in a super market) and was like, "Ainterstang accint yong lad, whot part of Scautland ya coume fram?"
That accent is thick. I haven't been there and have yet to meet a true Scot in person but I'm learning a lot from @meesterboom. A few more months of that guy and I might be fluent! These accents are fun! They're not meant to be taken seriously and protected by some kind of word police idiots.
You're Greek, I can hear your accent in my head. I know what it sounds like. I'm pretty sure I could learn a few hand gestures and blend right in over there! :)
Do you want me to make it even worst (in a funny way...I hope) for you? I am Greek (mostly) and French. Dad's Greek and mom is half Greek and half French. However, I was raised pretty much by my mom and French grandma in Greece (we were visiting France every year though). Can you hear in your head a Greek-French fella, speaking English? Trust me, it's a sound-mix of loud Greeks in a feast with French porn :P
Dude! You're making it sound like we're going shopping for salad dressing!
LOL!
I gotta go... I might be taking a break for a few days. Nobody else knows that, but they might see this message. I'm losing my fucking mind.... Have a good one!
LOL!!!!!
Alright, mate. You take care of yourself. God bless :))))
This was hilarious lol Watch any Eddie Murphy standup, or Russell Peters imitating a Chinese accent, or pretty much any actually funny standup makes fun of racial stereotypes. Seeing as you;re Canadian (I'm from MOntreal) and we're talking about accents, I read a story once about a couple who went to Australia on vacation. When they were going through Australian customs, they were asked "Where are you from?" and when they replied "Saskatoon, Saskatchewan", the border guard looked at her co-worker and said "Oh guess they don;t speak English" lol Thanks for making me laugh, followed you. I'm sorta new here still.
I'm actually from Saskatchewan. You can probably hear my accent as you read this now. You're from Montreal so you know all about dis, dat, dese and dose. Thanks for laughing at this. My goal was to at least try to pull something positive out of this mess.
I see you're an artist. I guess I am too, but I've been somewhat lazy lately and focusing too much on making an ass outta myself for laughs! I dropped a nice little bomb on that post and I'm following you now too.
I am an artist, since as far back as I can remember I've always been creating. I'm originally from Peru, I moved to Montreal when I was 17. I hear da dese and dose all da time lol My friend (and another Montreal artist) @adammillwardart told me about Steemit. Such a cool platform. Seems like people on here are more "real" - and more positive. Share some art, I'd love to see :) For me it's like eating and breathing, I need to create or I can go crazy lol
I tried to take a rest but ended up right back here with a new post... this time it's all about art. I go crazy too if I sit still and do nothing.
Although I have yet to read the post you've previously been heckled for, i'd like to note that we American's take great pride in being able to make fun of accents. Canadian accent we have done to the point of overkill without much creativity as of late, but we also make fun of accents from other states within the U.S. Boston, New York, Alabama, and anywhere else are all fair game. If someone from down here decided they needed to take a stand and send up a flare to signal their virtue, that wouldn't be surprising. Lucky for you being well equipped to handle such situations living from Canada..just brush that snowflake off your nose and continue on.
The more I think about this, the stupider it gets. It is that snowflake syndrome, isn't it! I haven't used that term until now.
Let's drop the comedy angle. Let's think about an actor. Pat Morita in the Karate Kid as Mr. Miyagi. The character and the real man sound completely different. Mr. Miyagi had a thick accent. Pat Morita doesn't sound like that at all. So what the fuck! He was born in California, not Japan! Who's yelling at him for using an accent in his work? Nobody. Why? Because, reasons.
Yes, baby!! I love it when you tell me to fuck off!!!
You reminded me of the amount of youtube videos teasing Italian accents- but hey we got something called "self-irony", weird, isn't it?
Mamma mia!
Self-irony is a sign of a mature culture. Some forms of the humor I use are intended for mature audiences. A mature mind could also be called a developed mind. These are only facts.
Do I dare call these haters immature? I better not! That might hurt their widdle feelings!
You are a funny guy. Actually we all talk strangely but it seems like love music and good beer brass all together in one language. Cheers.
