Exploring Echo Beach in Canggu, Bali

in #travelfeed8 years ago (edited)

I've jumped off of 50-foot waterfalls. I've eaten tarantulas. I've jumped out of airplanes. I've swam through fell in piranha-infested waters. Getting followed and chased in Mexico doesn't bother me much.

But I'm terrified to drive a motorcycle.

I don't even want to mention how many people I've seen get injured on one (or killed) in the past 2 months, because then maybe you'll be scared, too.

But finally, my curiosity and need to explore overcame my fear. I rented a motorbike today and was finally able to see some beautiful stuff as a result.

I think I have maybe 32 more gray hairs than I did before I got on the bike a few hours ago, but it was worth it.

There's a beach called Echo Beach here in Canggu, Bali. And it's amazing. I'm in love. Tonight reminded me of why I always live by the water whenever I can.

There's just something calming about being by a lake or an ocean.

I knew I was getting close when I saw this awesome colorful surfboard:

Next to the beach, there was this nice local lady (okay, almost all Indonesians are amazingly nice so far. I've met some of the friendliest locals already) who was selling traditional hand-made sarongs, as well as not-so-traditional ones.

See her in the back there, just working away?

Then I found some restaurants, which was perfect because I'm always hungry for food!

I ended up choosing to eat at a place called Dian Cafe. They had some of the cheapest ice coffee I've seen here, just 15k IDR (Indonesian Rupiah) which is a little over 1 USD. I liked it because they let me substitute coconut milk no extra charge, and they gave me sugar on the side, so I could make it as sweet as I wanted (or not sweet at all).

I ordered chicken in "wine sauce" but I think it was just "barbecue sauce." Haha, same thing...right? Unless I order a glass of wine and get a glass of barbecue sauce, then I'm not so sure... 😆

Would you drink a glass of barbecue sauce?

Hey, look who's back! The nice local lady came to visit me for dinner!

And then, the sunset was the perfect end to a yummy meal:

Afterward, I just wandered around and saw some things:

I found this COOL place called Las Brisas. They have a minimum 100k spend there, though. So about $7.25. Good business model...force everyone to spend a minimum mwahaha.

I didn't even have 100k on me, but at least the bouncer let me take a look around. And it looks pretty freaking awesome:

And, the highlight of my night was meeting this little girl, Mia. She's silly and I love it. All I got was this grainy pic of her face after she literally pretended a piece of cardboard was a fan, posed like a supermodel with it, and then randomly decided to turn on the fan and tear it to pieces with her teeth.

You can see the scattered remains of the mangled fan on the ground, haha.

Thanks for making me laugh, Mia:

Who really carries $100k around? Seriously....

haha what can I say, I'm a baller lol jk!

It must have been you that has been making it rain all winter long.

You are living the life... photos of your travel brings so much memory and take us off our busy life for a moment and be mesmerise with your experiences.. thanks for sharing and please be in Sabah with us this coming September:)

oo that would be so much fun!!! I found vegetables in Malaysia, by the way hehe

Hahaha... you know what? My dad has a huge green house. Let me know next time you are in Kuala Lumpur and I'll show you... nothing beats fresh salad~!!!

Ooh what a view for good food!

Perfect view for 2 dinners, haha! I LOVE your profile picture by the way :)

Ah thanks ~ That's Thornana

I love the photos and the story behind them. One can easily make a wall paper from these photos.

BTW, the 6th & 7th picture caught my eye because of where the woman that sells the locally made goods was standing. I notice from my behind her the figure of someone walking along the shores, which means the place she was standing is quite elevated. I'm just curious as to why there is no barrier to prevent her or someone else falling off.

Congrats to your bike ride. I would have love to see the bike, is it a scooter or powerbike?

You're so observant! It is high up, but people walk on it all the time. Motorbike...maybe I should take a pic of it! Thanks for your nice comments :)

Thanks for letting us see wonderful places thru your eyes dear.

That's the life ey? Everything looks so chill and nice... wish I could just sit by the beach and sip on coconuts.

maybe you can do it in Penang!
