Some starter info on blockchain and cryptocurrencies
I was talking to a friend this week and the conversation moved to bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. My stand was that crypto is the currency of the future, but maybe not bitcoin. My real feeling is that we are still in blockchain 1.0 (think AOL in internet speak) and by the time we hit blockchain 3.0 (think today on the internet) the real solid platforms will be established.
As we got talking he was a bit more interested in what the technology means, and wanted some background on what currency really is, and why I think the way I do. So the following is my email to him with a couple of links, etc.
Hey there,
Great chatting with you earlier.
I have come across a couple of really good podcasts that help explain some of the background of the technology and why it matters, without going too deep into the math, and cryptography theory.
The first one is from Tim Ferriss, he has Nick Szabo on to talk about everything cryptocurrency and smart contracts. They cover bitcoin, smart contracts, and a bit on blockchain. - https://tim.blog/2017/06/04/nick-szabo/
Nick Szabo also has a great blog at Unenumerated - http://unenumerated.blogspot.ca/2008/06/commodities-currencies-and-st.html is a great place to start.
The other is from Kevin Rose of http://digg.com fame, at least that's when I first started following him. He has Andreas M. Antonopoulos on his podcast to talk about Bitcoin's true potential, the state of money and trust. - https://www.kevinrose.com/single-post/andreas-antonopolous
This was the podcast that talked a lot about the paradigm shift that can come with blockchain transactions including streaming payments and automatic charities.
Let me know what you think.
So, what do you think I missed? Is there anything that you think I should add? What podcasts would you recommend to someone that is interested in more about the technology and its future, vs speculation on current trends.
