How we did a Raised Bed Build - 1st Time

in #gardening7 years ago

Hey Y'all,

Here is the first attempt to build a raised bed on the ole homestead.  I have been wanting to build a raised bed for sometime.  It seems that raised beds would be easier to keep weeded and it wouldn't require me to crouch down or bend over a much.  As I get older it seems the less my body likes to crouch down....

To build this raised bed I used some scrap lumber that was aquired from a neighbor friend and from around the homestead.  As I didn't have a lot of it laying around I decided to build a small bed that is about three feet wide by six feet long by one foot high.   I did have to spend some money on the soil and the week guard fabric which is not something we like to do on the No Budget Homestead, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do to get something done.  I am hoping that by using soil that is specially formulated for vegetables and it already has the fertilizer in it I am giving the vegetables the best environment to grow!  That is the theory anyways!!

I have a history of burning up the plants with too much fertilizer and so I have a bit of a "black" thumb...  I have not been successful in the past with growing any type of vegetables.  So, I am hoping that using prepared soil and the weed guard fabric this will increase my chance of success!

I hope everyone will enjoy the video.  I was pretty tired when I was making it as I did quite a bit around the homestead before filming this video.  But, I thought I would share with y'all and hopefully y'all will be entertained and offer some helpful advice.  If the garlic and onions I plan on planting in this raised bed does well then this Spring I will see about building more of them.  I am thinking four by eight by 18" tall.  But, before I get too carried away, lets see how this one goes!

You are the John Wayne of screw drivers

Not really sure how to respond to that... So, I will say pick one of the two responses below that is the most appropriate and doesn't make me look dumb... :-) God Bless!
"Thank you!" or "Whaaaat?!"

LOL!

Lol. He he he, at one stage you draw your electric screwdriver out like a sharp shooter, he he he. lol. Was meant as a complement but I can see how it could have been confusing!

Doh! Now I get it!! Sorry the older I get the more confused I get.... lol. That is actually a very good saying! Thanks!

Yeah this could have been me saying this...

I have a history of burning up the plants with too much fertilizer and so I have a bit of a "black" thumb...

I tend to over love and over water my plants

Yup! Too much love..... That it! Sounds a lot better than what I think.... "I'm a veggy killer!".... I like your thought process better! LOL!
