What so you think about surveillance cameras in each and every city worldwide?
We have seen crime increase all over the world, so many of them are unaccounted for.. Surveillance cameras will go a long way to curb crime.
Truth is people tend to behave a certain way when they are being watched, criminals are not left out as well. When they know they are watched, they will be discouraged from committing crimes there by reducing it. So Surveillance Cameras is good for every city worldwide.
This is a very important topic for our future civilization. You are correct that a camera on every corner will reduce crime, just like a police officer on every corner will decrease crime. Most people do not want to live in a police state. China is presently putting its civilian population under mass surveillance and are intent on political control. Every authoritarian regime is repressive when it comes to individual liberties. Mass surveillance for them is a way to control the population and maintain their control of power. I suspect that mass adoption of public cameras is probably inevitable. The discussion needs to be not whether they are a good idea, if they prove to be inevitable, but rather how do we curb government excess and repression while lowering the crime rate. One thought would be to prohibit the cameras to be monitored until an actual crime occurs and then they are limited to pulling the footage of the crime to allow for evidence of the criminal act and identification of those involved. Having once been in law enforcement, many years ago, it became very obvious that 95% of the crime is committed by 5% of the population. Cameras would be very effective in increasing the accuracy of criminal prosecution both in convicting the guilty but also, as important, exonerating the innocent. This issue is important and is not going away.
