Greetings everyone,

Today I would like to discuss the need to plant more trees in our various localities. It might not seem like a massive contribution but it is a huge step to getting people to follow in your footsteps. Even if it is just a seedling you can plant to beautify your household, it has its own significant contribution towards our carbon cycle.

As urbanization is increasing on a global scale, it is important now more than ever to practice afforestation. This is because our trees are being chopped off to create spaces for the commencement of new projects. Also, the increase demand of fossil fuel in the world leads to mass emission of the CO2 gas into the atmosphere.

In some parts of the world, it is mandated to carry out environmental impact assessment to ascertain the impact of this project whiles in other countries, not so much. Either way, the world is in dire need of this practice and people should therefore be made aware of the adverse effects of excessive CO2 emissions into our surroundings.

You might have heard of one of the most pertinent topics in the world right now: climate change. The debate is about whether or not it actually exists. But that's not the topic for discussion today. What we know is that CO2 emissions greatly affects temperature conditions on the earth's surface also termed as global warming as seen in the chart below.

These results are mainly due to the industrialization age we are currently in. We highly depend on the burning of fossil fuels and natural gases for the various machines we utilize. The same development that we crave so much in all our countries has had its own negative effects on our planet. This is because of the huge amounts of CO2 that is being released now as compared to a few decades ago. Ice bergs are also being melted which is causing the rising of sea levels.

CO2 itself is not a terrible thing as it is a necessary part of ecology and our carbon cycle. However, if care is not taken, the earth will get extremely warm in the next few decades making life difficult for future generations.

What can we do to mitigate this problem?

• Practicing afforestation : Carbon dioxide is a necessary component of the photosynthesis process plants undergo to manufacture their foods. This intake of CO2 gas therefore reduces its amount in the atmosphere and also balances the oxygen component of air through its by-products. We must therefore make a conscious effort to plant trees in large masses.

• Reducing dependence on fossil fuel : These days there are environmental energy alternatives such as solar power or electricity. When possible, factories and companies should utilize such means of power as compared to the burning of fuel which has negative contributions towards our planet.

• Reuse and Recycle : We must inculcate the habit of keeping our old items and packages that are in good conditions for reuse and shun the act of dumping them after slight usage. We can also buy slightly used items even at a less costly price and still get value for our money. This eases the pressure off production and is very healthy for our climatic conditions.

• Be an advocate for sustainable energy usage: Wherever you are and in however small way you can, you should speak in favor of clean energy usage. This will bring attract people to read more on the direction towards which our planet is heading and will also do the little they can to help solve this situation before it gets out of hand.
