Because steemit is a decentralized platform, we have full ownership of our passwords. And we control them. Therefore, we have the right to protect the private keys. As long as we take care of them, our steemit account and funds are safe. Any user who registers on the steemit platform will receive a PDF containing the private keys at the time of registration. Users should download the pdf and keep it safe.

If we lose our private keys, there is no way to recover them. Losing private keys means we lose our steemit account and its funds. Therefore, it is very important to protect the private keys.

Steemit saying,

The first rule of Steemit is: Do not lose your password.
The second rule of Steemit is: Do not lose your password.
The third rule of Steemit is: We cannot recover your password.
The fourth rule: If you can remember the password, it's not secure.
The fifth rule: Use only randomly-generated passwords.
The sixth rule: Do not tell anyone your password.
The seventh rule: Always back up your password.

If you registered to the steemit platform through this, you will receive the pdf link to download your master password and other private keys, to your email. Therefore, the password should be changed the moment it is received.

Also, if you have clicked on unsafe links and scammers have stolen your private keys, you should change your password.

How to change private keys and master password

Step 01 :-

Go to steemit wallet and select 'change password'

Step 02 :-

Enter your steemit username and current master password in the next interface and click on "generate password".

Click update password at the end.

Remember :-

Here you have to save the generated master password and download the pdf containing other private keys with the help of that master password.

Ways to protect master password and private keys

• The most basic method is to download and keep the pdf containing the private keys received during account registration.

• A copy of the pdf can be saved in the computer, mobile phone or laptop.

• Also the keys can be kept safely in a pen drive.

• The other method is to write down the passwords correctly on a piece of paper and keep the piece of paper in a safe place.

How I protect my passwords

I protect my steemit password in three ways from the above methods. The pdf containing the password is kept as a copy on the mobile phone and the laptop computer.

And I write the master password and the active key on a paper and keep that paper in an old unused wallet for protection.
