Wildflower series - Vernonia poskeana
Vernonia poskeana is a late bloomer and there are still a few flowers around despite the fact that is almost winter although most of the flower heads have already seeded. They look a lot like dandelions.
They were just getting ready to flower about 2 months ago but I got caught up in my house renovations and missed my chance to go and photograph them when they were blooming in large quantities. The remnants are also fairly photogenic.

a typical late storm for us two years ago. Plants have to be really hardy here.

What an interesting winter you have. At us in the winter it is full of snow, a frost and a cold.
I can't imagine what it is like to to live the way you do. We have a little snow maybe once every 20 years, we get frost on some nights and it can get quite cold but it is nothing compared to your part of the world. The best part is that it is over in 3-4 months and the weather is pleasant the rest of the time
The remnants are definitely photogenic, they look really pretty.

They are found in Zimbabwe, and much of Eastern Africa although this is Johannesburg, South Africa
