Wildflower series ~ Button Conyza
Looking like little yellow buttons, Conyza podocephala is a member of the daisy family that doesn't have any petals at all, the flower heads are just a collection of little florets that turn into little dandelion-type seed heads once flowering is over.
Conyza are considered ruderal plants, a name that literally means rubble growers, alluding to the fact that they are able to colonise disturbed places, making them pioneer plants although this particular species is not a major pest. They are also part of the fleabane family and the leaves have insect-repellent properties
It's amazing how these flowers grow in such difficult conditions, on stony soil, with a lack of water and hot sun.
Very nice and cute wild flowers! This place is a haven of wild flowers.
