Decentralized Music Platform | Crypto Academy / S5W3 | Homework Post for @wahyunahrul.
greetings everyone it is a beautiful thing to be in the season 3 of this great academy, and this week we will be talking about an interesting topic and for those in the music field, this is a great topic that might interest you. without wasting much time I will be dive into the questions for the day after an excellently delivered lecture by the professor.
There may be little mistakes as I resolved to google translate in order to make this post. having said this let's get started.
1. What do you think about the presence of the Audius platform in the music industry?
This lecture for me felt so personal and I would love to share an experience hopefully we will see what the presence of audius has done noting my experience and the changes that has come with audius.
In the year 2011, I struggled to produced a single track, went through so much stress to be recognised but all to no avail. I met some producers to sign me into their record label but in my country they rate money and reputation over good music. so I wasn't given a chance.
Before I say my thoughts on the audius, let's dive into what the audius platform is, the audius platform is a music platform for musicians of all kinds both those signed in a record label and those who are not signed to any label. you can show your work in progress and build a great fan base system for yourself not only that, one can still earn money by monetizing his music. It was created in 2018 by Roneil Ramburg and Forrest Browning.
I think the idea of the audius is excellent and beautiful as creators have a direct and full control of the money gotten from their music and without the stress of a record label. It also kills the issue I suffered where favoritism of wealth and fame was chosen over good music. in the audius platform, fans get to enjoy what they feel is good and not what was forcefully promoted by a record label.
The fact that the audius is a decentralized blockchain technology makes it more transparent and amazing as nothing can be changed or manipulated and what you earn cannot be reduced by any third party which helps one to produce beautiful musics.
Having said all that, let me list them out in points so we can all pick something home
Monetization
All thanks to the audius platform for making it easy for artist to earn without stress as their good music can be monetized and they start earning with ease.
Which is paid in the $AUDIO native town that can be traded in the cryto market, giving them an edge in the world of cryto currency.
ORIGINALITY
With the high rate of remix and covers going about , it is usually hard to tell which was the first and which artist is the original owner of the song but this problem has been made easier with the introduction of audius as it helps to keep the author unique and original in the production of musics
LABEL STRESS
Like I mentioned earlier if you have ever tried to release a song, you would know how stressful it is to get a record label. But the introduction of audius has increased the success rate of musicians without going through the stress of finding a label. Which makes it very very lovely and beautiful to explore.
2. With the governance system used by Audius, do you think that system has made Audius a fair and fully decentralized platform? If not, please provide your personal suggestions for the system that Audius uses to make it more fair and decentralized.
The governance system of the audius which works in a sequence whereby token holders have the ability to make changes on the platform through an on-chain proposal method. In other for this proposal to be effected there has to be a minimum of 5% staked $AUDIO and more than 50% percent votes on the proposal, if it is less than 50% the proposal is cancelled.
The governance system starts from a discord feedback to a forum post then it is submitted on the government portal then lastly we have an on chain vote if the votes goes above 50%, then it is executed on he platform.
for me based on the question, I would say that the Audius is a fair and fully decentralized platform because it gives users the ability to make their views and make changes to suit them rather than having a central body that takes all the decisions from the top.
3. Explain how to do 2 types of staking on Audius complete with illustrations. (Image Required)
There are basically two(2) types of staking on the audius website
- Node Operator staking
- Client/artist staking
because of how expensive this might be, I might not carry out an actual staking but will be explaining the steps that will be required.
First we need to connect audius to meta mask and I will guide us through the procedures of connecting to metamask
- go to the official website AUDIUS
- click on explore dash board and click on connect to metamask
- after clicking on the connect meta mask a pop up message will come up telling you to open the meta mask and then you are required to choose the account you want to use if you have more than 1 account.
- after connecting to the meta mask, we can see the image below showing our account has been connected.
The client staking is quite easy and can be done in the following steps, the price does vary per node.
- in order to delegate first click on services and select the node you wish to delegate to as you can see below
- click on delegate as you can see marked out in the screenshot below
- Input the amount of $AUDIO token you wish to delegate for this node, the minimum is 5000 $AUDIO
- After inputing the amount of $AUDIO you wish to delegate, click to confirm with meta mask
- as we can see below the amount is insufficient so the transaction cannot go through. but this is the procedure for staking as a client.
- First of all make sure you are connected to meta mask then click on register new services
- input the amount you are willing to stake, with a minimum of 200,000 AUDIOS and click on register service
- after that you will be required to confirm from your metamask and a popup will be displayed on meta mas, so you can confirm the staking
4. Show the steps to create an account on Audius. (Screenshot Required)
The steps to creating an account on audius are quite simple with the few steps below
- visit the website AUDIUS and click on sign up for free
- input your email to get started
- fix a matching password that fits all criterias which includes an uppercase, a lower case and a set of numbers. Then repeat the password to ensure that there is no mistake.
- choose a system to set up your profile, you can either connect from instagram or twitter but I will be inputting my details manually
- input your username and your handle name to proceed
- follow atleast 3 artist to fully create the account
- you can also scan to download the mobile application
- after all the processes we can see that my account has been created and ready for use
5. Explore and explain the features available on the Audius application or website. (Screenshot Required)
There are so many features on the Audius platform but I will be explaining as much I could see
let's start with the Explore feature
The explore feature has to do with quick navigations that could aid a user enjoy his experience on the platform even with a short time.
- It contains trending features which help you to know what is currently trending on the AUDIUS platform
- it shows top albums
- shows new releases from artist which you follow
- it shows underground and up coming artists with potentials
- it also shows great playlist combinations and lots more
Next let's talk about the profile page
As we can see above this is the profile page and it left to be designed according to the user's taste of quality, ranging from inputing a profile picture, a background picture, you get to see your number of followers and how many artist that you follow already, your song reposts and so much more.
next we will be talking about the Playlist Page
from the image above, we can see that this page is kept to see our created playlist based on the songs that inspired us the most or the songs that we loved the most.
Let's talk about the Favorite page
From the image above this is the page for the songs you feel are very dear to you and you wish to tag them as your favourite, currently I just joined the platform and you can see that I have no favorite yet.
Next I will be talking about the Trending page
From the word trend we could have an idea of what this page talks about, it talks about the top 5 or top 10 songs on the platform currently and there is usually a reward for those artists.
Lastly I will be talking about the Feed Page
Just like every other social network, the Audius has the feed page where you feed your eyes with the current happenings on the platform which you wish to be concerned about.
6. Explain in detail how the mechanism of uploading music content on Audius.
The audius content uploading works on two main nodes which are the content node and the discovery node, when a track is uploaded, it navigates to the content node first where it is processed and given a reference code or timestamp to create originality and identity.
The reference code is reproduced or replicated into two other nodes in the the content node. which gives the network a hosting proof showing it exist on the network. A metadata is attached to the profile that uploaded the track creating an onchain transaction which is a validation that the track now exists on Audius.
Immediately the onchain traction occurs, it is picked up by the discovery node, creating a hash and an index which in turn returns to the user that his track has been successfully uploaded.
7. Upload your original music to Audius and show the proof using a block explorer. (Screenshot Required)
First you need to visit the website audius and login to your account and click on upload
source you can either drag thee music and place on the page or browse to find it
source after dropping the music on the page, click on continue to input details of the music
source Input the genre, add tags, list the category in which your music falls into and lots more to be filled on this page, a cover photo of the song is also required
source after filling the details, click on continue and the music upload process will be shown as we can see mine is completed.

CONCLUSION
The audius platform is really an upgrade to the music life of the world, it has brought a great change as it makes the way to the top easier than we can imagine, the stress of getting a label before you can look relevant in the sphere of music has been eliminated by the audius platform.
In the course of this lecture, I was able to learn the mechanism behind the upload of music in the audius platform talking about the content node and the discovery node.
I also learnt how to create an account and upload my music along side. I also learnt and have explained the different kinds of staking on the audius platform. lastly the exploration on the features of the audius platform was great and I would recommend anyone with an interest in music to make good use of this platform.
