Hello @tasteem and @steemit members! I’m back again after busy with my work and trip. Today I would like to do a review of a restaurant which is nothing fancy, no air conditioner and even no music background as well and is not a tourist spot.

History

Liang Yung Hwa Restaurant was started since 1937 located in Papar Town. Papar is 37 km away from the city of Kota Kinabalu Sabah Malaysia. Till now has been operated by the 4th generation of Liang’s family. Their great grandfather learned the secret recipe of roasted and grilled pork from one of the Chef in Hong Kong. After 80 years, they still remain the traditional way of cooking by using charcoal.

The outlook

old wooden shophouses

The outlook may not attractive especially to foreigners or tourists but not to the locals. The locals very much appreciate all these old buildings and for them considered as heritage. But the most important is the food quality right? Everyone loves good food!

Due to this restaurant always packed with local customers, the owner decided to extend their sitting area at the surrounding of the walkway.

Their signature dish

Liang Yung Hwa Restaurant specialized in roasted and grilled of various pork delicacies such as homemade Char Siew (Roasted Pork), Lap Cheong (Chinese Style Pork Sausage), Pai Kut (Chinese Style Pork Ribs) and many more.

What makes them so popular?

The way they cook are different from other. Others using gas or electric oven to produce the meats just to save time and cost but not for them. They still preferred using the old-fashioned way by using charcoal.

Any different between cooking by charcoal and others method?

Yes! This may sound crazy but is true. Just by using different method of cooking but marinated the same meat and ingredients will still give lot of differences.

By using charcoal will have to cook in slow mode and mild grilling concept that keep the meat juicy and smoke with nice aroma.

That’s the reason they can’t cook too many in every day. I went there at 11:30am which is before noon but some dishes has been “SOLD OUT”!

What did I order?

I went there with my mom and my junior on last Monday and we wanted to order few of their dishes but few has been sold out. So we only managed to order few.

This is what I ordered - Fried Noodles with Roasted Pork Belly and Roasted Pork

This is one of a “MUST TRY” dish. Their noodles are all handmade which can’t find somewhere else which tastes better and chewy. But the best part is LESS OILY! The Roasted Pork is one of their signature but if they have Lap Cheong (Chinese Style Pork Sausage) then I can say is 100% perfect. Now I give 90% out of 100.

This is what my mom ordered - Pai Kut (Roasted Pork Ribs) with Rice

This is another signature dish from them. The rib of tender and juicy. All I can about this dish is 10 out of 10. Yummy! And it comes with a free soup.

You can call them to make booking any of their foods in advance so that you won’t be disappointed driving all the way there. Isn’t it good idea?
