What are Marron? Rare Crayfish? Mutant Blue?!
Blue Crayfish? No, they are called Marron and they are amazing crustaceans!
G'Day my fellow Steemers I have such an interesting treat for you today - Marron. Marron are the third largest freshwater crayfish in the world. They are native to the south-west of Western Australia and only exist in a small amount of places in Australia where they are then shipped live to international destinations, yes they are alive the entire journey and survive!
Australian Marron are indigenous to the south west of Western Australia, and they require better quality water than most other fresh water crustaceans. Australian Marron are the largest commercially grown fresh water crustacean.

The shell colour of a live Marron can vary from red, brown through to black or a highly vibrant blue colour. This is dependent on genetics but a common feature is that when cooked they all change to a very bright crimson red. The blue is usually kept for aquariums and very popular in Japan.

The amount of meat per animal is one of the highest of all crustaceans at around 50%. The flavour of Australian Marron is quite subtle, slightly sweet with nutty overtones and a firm consistency. Regardless of size, Marron are one of very few animals that retain the same delicate taste and texture making it very popular with high end restaurants and chefs around the world.
