in #food7 years ago

Ever wanted to make your own IKEA Meatballs and know exactly what your putting in them? I've got the recipe for you!

G'Day everyone 👋
Over the past 12 months I've been on a mission to re-create more fast food and famous store-bought dishes for everyone to make at home. Today I'm bringing you the famous IKEA Meatballs including that yummy sauce that goes with it. So if you're a fan of these meatballs like I am, you can now make them at home and know exactly what's in them.

Ingredients:

Meatballs:

1/3 cup chopped onion
1 egg
1/3 cup beef stock
2 tablespoons water
220g / 1/2 pound ground beef
220g / 1/2 pound ground pork
1/2 cup dried breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
1/8 teaspoon all spice

Sauce:
1/3 cup heavy cream
1 & 1/4 cups beef stock
4 teaspoons corn starch
1 tablespoon apple juice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon white pepper
1 bay leaf

Method:

Combine all of the meatball ingredients into a food processor. Mix well until it forms a smooth grind, you don't want any chucks anywhere. Using a tablespoon measurement scoop out 1 tablespoon of mixture and using wet hand shape into meatballs. Place on a lined baking tray and put in a preheated oven at 180c/350f for 20-25 minutes turning them once.

While the meatballs are cooking make the sauce. Over a medium to high heat, add all of the sauce ingredients (except the bay leaf) into a medium deep saucepan. Stir and bring to a gentle boil, reduce the heat and add the bay leaf. Simmer for 7 minutes or until it has thickened slightly. Remove the bay leaf and place into a pouring jug ready to serve.

Once the Meatballs come out of the oven, place into a sauce pan over a medium to high heat with vegetable oil added. Brown them further for several minutes to get that authentic look and better flavour.

To serve, simply pour the sauce over the meatballs and accompany them with mashed potatoes, beans and a lingonberry sauce.
