Witnessing the interhouse sports day in my kids school, running 100m race along with other parents

Madam, good afternoon and welcome to our interhouse sports day! You look great but I thought you were going to come on your sports attire today knowing that parents are going to run.

These words were from the school principal of my kids school to me on the interhouse sports day of my kids school. I was so shocked and disappointed in myself. I haven't attended an interhouse sports for my kids. Only during my days in school and my parents didn't come and I can't even remember if parents took part in any activities that day or not. Well, I told her that I will try and run no matter how I am dressed. I didn't know at all but let's see how it goes.

Interhouse sports day is a day that is set aside by the school management for sporting activities. Most schools in my country take part in these ones a year, while some do theirs ones in 2 years. But ever since my kids joined this school, this particular year is the first time I have witnessed it done.

Preambles

First, the school organizes the kids into various houses.

Then the teachers are assigned to various houses to help prepare the kids for the games. Note that the various games to be played during the interhouse sports is between houses and the best emerges as winner. So the teachers of the various houses are to ensure they help the kids to fínd the sports they are good at and they they are selected to represent their house in those games. They will compete with other kids in other houses.

The houses are identified by different colors. Example, blue, red, green, pink, purple, and yellow so on. My kids belong to blue and pink respectively.

Prior to the day agreed upon for the climax of the sports, the various houses compete in various games because all the games can not be played on the fixed day due to time.

The various games are but not limited to the following

Football
Match past
Races (relay, 100m, 200m, and so on)
Sack race
Egg race (where the kids scoop the egg from the ground and run a certain distance to the finishing line)
Fill the basket game
3 legs game and so on.

An interhouse sports is a sporting event that allows the various houses to compete in the different games mentioned or agreed on to determine the winners. Only 1st, 2nd and 3rd are pick as winners and are given prizes. To win, each house will need to perform exceedingly well in all the games.

These games are played by both male and female, senior and junior.

These games are started weeks before the interhouse sports day. Only a few are played on the said day or perhaps the grand finale of a particular game.

The houses are scored according to their performances and marks are given.

The interhouse sports day (27th February, 2024)

On this day, I and my kids along with my neighbors whose kids are in the same school with my kids drove down to the school after preparation by 2pm.

It was that day that the school principal saw me and made that comment on the opening paragraph of this post.

On arrival, we saw various houses in their canopies identified by their various colors nearly seated and waiting for the event to begin. My kids also went in and sat in their different houses while parents sat in the canopy allocated to them.

Before long, the event started. The kids went into the field and organized themselves in their various houses in preparation for the match past along with their flags identifying their houses. I had to go in and take the pictures below

Then, the program of the event was given to us and it was followed accordingly starting with the introduction of the Chairman and others along with the judges. Then the principal gave the opening speech as introduced by the MC, there was the opening remarks too by the chairman.

The match past began. The various houses in their smart colors matched systematically and displayed their various styles in front of the chairman who took the salute from them all. The judges were taken note as they matched.

After that followed the other games. They were all interesting as I closely watched and laughed at the same time. I cheered them up as they all did their best. It was so colorful. My eyes glued to every game because I love games so much. I didn't even go out for a moment. I was there to enjoy them all. I took some pictures too as shown below.

Another interesting part was the race the the teachers ran along with the school principal and guess who won? It was the principal herself. Though it was just the female teachers and later the male teachers. But I was particularly impressed as the principal took first place. Wow! She gave the teachers enough gap. Some of the teachers that ran are @eveetim and @realitytrend. But the principal outrun them all. Well, it appears she is the sporty type. But I love the energy that every one of them showed. It was great.

Then it was announced that the mothers should come and run. Hmmm, well, I had to run. Yes, even though I wasn't properly dressed for the race. I removed my high heel shoe and went barefooted.

Other mothers came out too. The MC announced that first aid box should be handy in case of any incident. That it usually happens that the mothers will sure fall.

It was a 100m race. We arranged ourselves and instructions were issued. Then " on your marks, get set, go oooo" please watch the rest in the video below
