SEC-S13W4 | "Is age just a number?".

Is age just a number? How can it be when the difference is clear both on outward appearance and inward knowledge and wisdom.

Age can be regarded as the length or period of time that a person has lived on earth. It could be a period of time that something has lived on earth. Hence, it has to do with how long one has been alive on earth.

Some value age and give reverence to those who are older while some do not regard age at all.

In my country, most individuals give much respect and regard to older ones than younger ones.

However, things are beginning to change as most people respect the wealthy than the poor no matter your age. This is to say that if your age is much lesser than those around you, so long as you have the money, you are honored more than those without money, hence, the saying that 'money rules the world".

But I have different views on that. Whether one is old or young, so long as you are responsible, and you behave well, you deserve to be respected.
Both young and old have something that deserve honor. Like the quote below

The glory of young men is their strength, And the splendor of old men is their gray hair. (Proverbs 20:29 of the holy scriptures)

But, I also believe that age alone doesn't make one responsible but it depends on what one has done with the age. Just take a look at the quote below

Age alone does not make one wise, Nor is it only old men who understand what is right. (Job 32:9 of the holy scriptures)

This is my stand. It is good to gain wisdom while growing up and do the right thing as well because that is what determines your worth and not just age.

Are you proud of the age you are? or are you one of those who take off or put on age?

What will I do with my age if I take it off? There is this classmate of mine who reduced her age drastically while in school. It seems that she was far older than all of us. But her reason was that she wants to get a job since age will be considered. But to me, that's not enough reason to reduce age.
I am the one type that is proud of her age. I am +41 and I even look younger than that. I am proud of my age. I got married at the right age and I was blessed with kids at the right age too. Most times it is hard for people to believe that I gave birth to those big kids.
I have not taken off my age for once. I always tell my real age wherever whenever.

Is being 20 really the same as being 65?

Hahaha, they can never be the same. At 10 years, a person is just leaving childhood and is now growing to become a responsible adult.

At twenty, we are very much vibrant,, energetic, resourceful, still have their mental and physical health in tact. This is unlike the group of people at 65 years. They have already gone far in years. Already classified as old people. They are already sapped in their strength and physical wellbeing. Some illness associated with age have already begun to disturb them. In fact those at 65 years are very close to the grave.

You can see the difference. There is no basis for comparison at all. The age makes the difference. Evens I, can not look the same with my kids as a result of my age in comparison to theirs

How old would you like to be right now and why?

If given the opportunity, I would like to be in my mid 20s or between 20 and 35years. This is the most vibrant period of our lifetime. it is the time that we build a foundation for ourselves for the future. At that age. We have the energy, strength, and zeal to go after anything or business we want to run.

We also have less health challenges for those within that bracket. Arthritis, bone mass loss, high blood pressure, is almost unheard of. You are ready to take up any challenging opportunity to make more money.

I could remember when I got to age 40, that was when I started having osteoarthritis and that was when I started exercising regularly to help my age. You can imagine that!

Do you agree with the laws' special treatment for older people?

Well in my country, I have not seen any special laws concerning the treatment of elderly ones. It is sad to say that most of these older ones who were government workers untill their retirement, do not receive their gratuity and some die off without receiving their pension for one day.

Elderly ones need to be taken care of. They are very important in the society. They serve as custodians of age old tradition and helps encourage young one too.

So I would agree to enacting any law that will encouraging treating the elderly in a special way.

For now, it is the responsibility of their children to take care of the elderly one since there is no welfare program designed to take care of the elderly.

I was surprised to notice here in my present city of residence that most older ones are not even treated well by their children. Most children here treat their aged parents as though they are evil ones who are either killing their own children or grand children or who are preventing their success in life.

That is absorb! How can it be that a mother or father who gave birth to you and cared for you till you become somebody now becomes your enemy of progress? Well, that is their mentally.

I had seen an aged mother being lucked up in a room after her husband's death, maltreated by her own children as witch until her death.

So. I believe that if special laws are enacted to protect and care for these ones,their life will be much better

Do you think 18 is old enough to be considered an adult?

Well, I think so. I am from Nigeria and our official age us 18. The reason is because at that age, one has passed through both elementary and secondary school and must have gained considerable amount of knowledge to be an adult.

Remember that learning never ends, the more reason why these ones may still remain with their parents if they choose to in order to gain more practical knowledge, but at least, at that age, one has developed in all aspects of life to be able to care for him or herself.

It is true that some mature more than the others but the knowledge gained at this age is just commissurate to their age and can be appropriate for them to be treated as adults. And can help them when they take on certain responsibilities like work and so on.

Conclusion

Age is not just a number when much wisdom and experience is accumulated over the period of ones years of life.

Whereas it could just be a number when one lacks the wisdom associated with that age.

Those who are aged should be given the respect and care that they deserve and there should be a universal law that protects older ones who are weak and are faced with one sickness of the other.
