Growing your own food could be the answer

I was thinking about how bad the situation is here in my country and beyond. I decided to walk round my compound and take a look at the garden. I noticed that I have so many things that I have grown in there.

The thought came to my mind that it could be that growing our own food can be the answer to our requests for a better economy.

For instance, a tuber of yam was priced by @ruthjoe in the market and it was sold at N6000 (21.42 steem). That may not be the highest price. Perhaps there are others that are sold at a higher price. Then imagine if someone has a farm where he can harvest such yam, will he have need to buy from the market?

My yam garden

I came to appreciate my yam garden as I walked around. Days back, some of my neighbours visited us just to admire our small garden. They noticed a flower or something of such that proves that the yam is already maturing. Notice it in the picture below. I don't know what it is called

They really praised the yam and said that if in the end, our yam does very well, that by next farming season, then will fill their compound with yam. That means that they will start growing their own yam. Well, we can only be on the lookout. Imagine if our yams grow well and we have a bountiful harvest, then we will not have to buy yam from the market. Then, will it not be economical? I think it will

this is the yam growing bountifully

My plantain garden

The next in my garden that I value so much is the plantain. Recall that around December last year, we harvested more than 5 bunches of plantain and as at that time, each of those Bunches cost N5000 (17.54 steem). Imagine how it was able to save us some money if we were to purchase them from the market.

And now, new generations of those plantain trees have brought out fruits again. At the moment, we have 5 bunches that are coming up but at different stages. If all should as well mature and are harvested, they will really save us large sums. They are truly doing great

You can see them from the pictures above at different maturity stages. I really admire them.

Pawpaw

The first batch of our pawpaw finished about 3 months ago. And the pawpaw trees began a new generation of fruits. During the first generation stage, we were eating Pawpaw fruits practically everyday and even got tired at some point. We had to gift some of them out.

But when they finished, we began to long for them again. Do you know that pawpaw can help hold ones hunger while you look for something to eat? Even though it is just an appetizer for some people, I can take it as food as a fitness lover. It really helps. Getting them from the market can be very expensive. Hence, it saved us good cash then.

With the trees fruiting again for second generation, it's going to be so many again because instead of 2 trees, we now have 4 that are fruiting at the same time. We already ate one that ripened last week. That means that they will soon start ripening in much quantities. I can't wait!

My son for instance combines groundnuts with pawpaw especially the semi ripped ones. And according to him, it is very sweet. That means, he enjoys it that way. Many more are yet to ripe and we are waiting

The pictures above are just 2 out of the 4 pawpaw trees that are fruiting. We have other upcoming trees that are yet to mature. It therefore means that there maybe the possibility of either dashing some out or selling them. It all depends on the quantity. It will really ease us some financial burdens.

  • Time will fail me if I begin to talk about the spices and the vegetables like pepper, fluted pumpkin, scent leaf, curry leaf, utazi leaf, water leaf, ginger and garlic and even tomato which I had harvested. They are all serving me greatly.

And what more can I say? If everyone should try and grow some of the trees, vegetables and spices that that they always need, then some expenses will be curtailed. Now, you must not have a big land before you grow foods. Just use bag to economise space.

I believe that if we are able to try our best to go into growing our own foods, we will not only save money but eat healthy foods. This is because in a bit to economise the little cash at hand that is competing with several needs, we eat unhealthy foods which will affect us in the long run. We can do it dear Nigerians. Let's do it!

It is just good for one to have their own space where they can be free to plant crops. I can see how much you enjoy this freedom ma'am.

Any day my leg touches uyo, just be rest assured that I won't go except you package my own plantain or yam. I can carry them don't worry about the weight.

Groundnuts with pawpaw is a new style I'm yet to explore.

Wow I can't imagine how much this is going to save you. I know you put in a lot of effort to achieve all this beautiful plant. I have a space that would be nice if I try this. Such a timely motivation.
Well done maam.

Have a good day my dear friend. I want to talk to you. I messaged you on discord please check and talk to me.
