The things I've learnt through Steemit over the past 10 months

in #steemit7 years ago

It's been around 10 months since I first joined Steemit and entered a completely different world. What an incredible adventure it has been!
First and foremost, Steemit has a great community. Steemit has allowed me to learn and be exposed to things I would have never been part of otherwise. Below are some things I'm incredibly grateful to have learnt through my time on Steemit.

Steem introduced me to Cryptocurrencies

Prior to Steemit, I've only briefly heard about Bitcoin and Ethereum, but have never obtained any crypto for myself. It all seemed irrelevant to me. But ever since joining Steemit, I've read fascinating posts about the potential of various crypto projects, and since to cash out Steem and SBD, I needed to be familiar with crypto exchanges, it has introduced me to crypto trading and wonderful projects such as VIVA, and Equibit. I believe along with Steem, both VIVA and Equibit all have enormous potential, and will disrupt many industries and revolutionize the way we do things. I'm thankful that it was through Steemit that led me to be an investor in all these projects.

Steem introduced me to sports that I never thought I'd be interested in

Growing up in China and then Australia, NFL was very foreign to me. But since I love contests/competitions, I tried to enter all sorts of contests when gamification on Steemit first started.

@steemsports was probably one of the first really popular gamification style posts. Many of the sports they featured such as NFL, NHL and UFC, I didn't have a clue about, but I entered anyway. And by some kind of fluke, I ended up topping the winner board for the first month.

Then after @steemsports stopped having free to enter contests, I got really involved in sports contests run by Ats-David; first NFL, then this year he introduced Nascar and golf. Like NFL, I haven't got a clue about Nascar and golf, but again I entered anyway. And again like the Steemsports contests, some how I ended up winning a lot of the earlier Nascar contests.

Being involved in these contests has been a lot of fun and has introduced me to all these new sports. O and whilst on the topic of contests, my favourite at the moment has to be the STEEM-POCALYPSE SURVIVAL GAME run by @papa-pepper.

Steemit has introduced me to a wonderful diverse and global community

Most importantly, Steemit has allowed me to get to know amazing Steemians all over the world; Steemians from diverse cultures and backgrounds, but all sharing the same Steem dream. I'm thankful to be part of this generous community and look forward to what the coming year holds for this great platform and community.

Have definitely learnt a lot here.

When I think of football I wold not say China is first to come to mind. ;)

Haha yeah exactly.

I'm impressed that you were topping the winner board for sports contests without knowing much about sports! How did you manage to do that? I would like to learn how to win contests on steemit😄

It was some educated guessing, reading other people's comments and votes, and occasionally a little bit of research.

Thank you for sharing! ☆☆☆☆☆😎

@nextgen622 I have only been on Steemit for 10 days now and I can already see how if I were to really give my all to it, the return back could be 90% interest fold...lol. Seriously though, what impact would you say Steemit has had on your quality of life? I am assuming you will say it has improved it, but I am curious to know if maybe you might say it has improved the quality of your savings, creativity, and income stream, but you actually are putting your life on hold until you have reached your magic number. Or maybe neither?

Good question. For me, I don't think it has impacted my quality of life all that much, besides giving me knew interests. My family, faith and relationships are my top priority, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Although at times I have found myself browsing Steemit when playing with my son. It is those times I need to refocus and remind myself about my priorities.

amazing.... i will follow you

I heard about steemit last year but I didn't join until only a couple of weeks ago. Looking back now I regret. I was too busy betting against the markets, thinking it's all gonna come down but it didn't happen and I lost big time! Most of my savings were wiped out because of it. :(

I know what you mean. Last year I got into trading penny stocks, and made a bit of money at first, but then went all in on a couple of stocks that tanked big time. I lost a huge chunk of my savings too. But I'm thankful for the lessons I learnt through that, because one of the stocks is a blockchain based project and it taught me about the potential of the blockchain, which ultimately helped me to become interested in the potential of Steemit. God indeed works all things together for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purposes.

No point regreting. Each stage of our lives are God given lessons. I'm glad you joined now. It's not too late. Bless you brother.

I am new to Steemit- if fact, this is my first post.
Is there an area where those with interests in penny stocks chat.

I have the best part of this is discussing new ideas.

Let me know.

Thanks

Welcome to Steemit @technewbie! I'm not sure about anywhere specific for discussing penny stocks as more people here are into cryptocurrencies. But definitely check out www.steemit.chat. That is the chat room for Steemit and there are a lot of groups there. Not sure about chat around stocks, but there are definitely rooms setup to discuss cryptocurrencies.

Oh wow. Looks like we share a lot more than our faith. I'm 100% with you on God working all things together for our good. But I did act irresponsibly and greedy and it was largely my own fault. But I've learned to move on and rest in God's promises. This world after all is temporary! Bless you too :]

Yes, I think God is teaching us the same lessons here. I was being irresponsible and greedy too. It was certainly an expensive lesson, but I'm thankful for it.
