Mobile Brain Scanner Can Revolutionize Concussion Diagnosis
I have suffered multiple concussions in my life. When I was younger it was often difficult to discern whether someone was concussed or not. This was especially true regarding sports. I’m the old days a big hit that would leave you ‘woozy’ was a common occurrence. It was a misguided mark of toughness to stay in the game after a hard hit. We were very ignorant to the dangers of concussions at that time.
The number of undiagnosed concussions is is very troubling. Fortunately we are going through a major paradigm shift regarding brain injury detection. It is taken much more seriously now. Often people are taken to get a CT scan after a suspected concussion.
This new device, called the BrainScope One is very promising. It can hook up to a mobile phone and read brain information to help diagnose how severe the brain trauma was. This will save precious time and resources, and most of all it can accurately discern when major damage may have occurred.
The brains of all of us are wonderful and technically staggering in their ability. New technology that can help protect / help our brains are major benchmarks on the ongoing improvement of our quality of life.

I knew I have seen this before!
Lol. Professor X should have patented it.
It's quite promising and convenient but I think, for now, the most accurate diagnosis of concussion can be achieved by classic steps of history taking, physical examinations and finally radiograph investigations. When the accuracy of such devices to detect concussions have been documented through meticulous research, then we can use it to achieve a clinical diagnosis of concussion.
Well said. As with all technology it will theoretically get cheaper and more advanced as time goes on.
It is so amazing that human brain can do so much thing but cannot follow the movement of each organ of the body.I think within next 20 yr mobile phone are going to replace many scientific gadgets.
Yes phones seem to be able to do almost everything now. It’s hard to keep up with all of the exciting innovations.

Hi @newcastle. Nice article. If we can create a well-functioning device to diagnose concussions, it would help a lot. There is a few changes that I would like to suggest in order to make this post a better STEM article:
