Gaming Ourselves

I have had some family over for the weekend for some pool and barbecue time as the Summer continues to wind down and was told that one of my prior favorite titles in online video game history was free for the weekend. I took off some of the dust on my gaming console and was happy to download a whopping 35 GBs of data to try out the test of Call of Duty Modern Warfare game which is due to be released later this year. This was one of my favorite online games for console although I really played a lot of Starcraft 2 when I was in college on my PC.

When I started to slow down my career and its intensity when my daughter was born, I decided to buy a console again to try some games as I started my new phase as a parent. I quickly remembered why I enjoyed playing video games when I was younger as I would immerse myself in the experience. I still believe that the hours of playing games that challenged my problem solving skills has played a role in my strategic thinking in business. In particular, my ability to make quite decision while under pressure is surely do to the reflexes I had needed to have as a gamer in my youth.

In business, it seems that gamification is always a necessary process to position ourselves to leverage our experiences and as well as the resources available to deploy. If we fail to strategize or properly plan, we could set our endeavors out for failure as things rarely play out as planned. I have learned through experience that being nimble and not paralyzing to make decisions is a key feature to executing plans and delivering results in anything we do.

I feel that this is what awaits us here in the community and the protocol as Steem heads to its 21st Hard Fork. I doubt that anyone truly knows the implications of all the changes and how the behaviors and decision of all of the stakeholders, small or large, will change to adapt to them. There are often perceived changes that influence our decisions early only to realize that it was best to wait to understand all the pieces of the puzzle before reacting. The changes and adaptation needed will also probably be different for all of us which will make the experience a bit more individual which I look forward to.

As I see the countdown to my next match online, I feel a similar countdown here with you all and this great place we engage with. While I don’t know where I will go, I am surely decided that I am here to stay. I also want to ensure that my engagement remains as ultimately it is our engagement as a community that creates value for the ecosystem internally and externally. There are many comments and discussions that the worst is now behind us but we have heard that in the past and that will really depend on us collectively. Therefore, let’s make sure we keep it going!
