Game of Thrones Contest Results!

With the Game of Thrones Series now officially over, we now have a final body count to review and see how well we did on our predictions. It would not be appropriate to quickly go through the details without some engaging commentary though so I will share some thoughts on this highly controversial final season. As they say, all good things must come to an end and that proved to be the case with the Series although one of the large disappointments for me was the amount of storytelling and content omitted from the final season. Even with the storyline they ultimately chose to film, there was so much more that could have been able to be done to give us at least another season. Even the time of the last 20 minutes of the episode in the aftermath of the deaths at King’s Landing, there was enough to extend for one full season. To think that the Game of Thrones would end with a discussion and agreement of the survivors the way it happened takes us away from the reality the world set us up for.

While I do not disagree with how and who it all ended up, I think the last stories of most of those who died and survived were very underwhelming for the amount of character development that was done through multiple seasons. However, I do believe that this has all been purposeful as there are still two books expected to be published. While I do not expect the end to materially be different from the show, I think that the books would do the ending and characters far more justice. I think they have purposefully done two things; first, many (like myself) will now go to the books to read the epic story start to finish (when they are finally released). Second, I also think they are setting up the fans for the future Spin offs of the series. While we will not see the characters again, we will see the impacts of their legacy or how past legacies impacted those in the show.

In terms of the results from the body count, I thought I would have expected more key characters to perish as the show had set them up for it during the first seasons. However, given the increase in popularity of not only the show but the characters, I think they started to give the fans some of what they wanted which poses a risk for the characters in the books to come as well as there have always been deviations from the books in terms of survival as well. In summary, it seems that most of the characters that “deserved” to perish did although not necessarily in a way some would have wanted. Most participants did pretty well in guessing the fate of many characters. Out of the 27 possible scenarios, most of those who participated got at least 50% correct which is pretty impressive.

The predictions of Wight conversions had very little impacts to the scores much like the episode of the Long Night really had on the fates of most characters. That was really unexpected as the writers really setup for dire consequences for that episodes including a depleted army of Dothraki and Unsullied which magically reappeared in the last episode! I myself only lost two points after thinking two of the characters would have converted but did not actually. Luckily, it would not have changed the results for the most part. In addition, the bonus questions also did not have much impact as only three participants were able to predict the answers and everyone thought that Dary was pregnant (which would have been sad given the outcome)!

The results have been interesting as there is actually a four-way tie for first place with 21 points each! While exciting for you all, this means that the payout just became pretty expensive for me! I said in my post that in the event of a tie, I would divide the prize among the winners but if I were to do that, the first place prize would be equal the third place prize which was not the thought of it all. However, since @steembasicincome is so great anyway, I will adjust the first place prize down to 15 SBIs but will give it to each of the four! Also only one other person not in the top 3 was able to tie my score so he will get one SBI as well. Here are the preliminary winners:

I will be triple checking my results and appreciate if anything seems off so I could adjust so let me know. If all is well by this Friday, I will send the SBIs accordingly as I need to get more Steem than I had expected!

From the results at my office, I came in 4th place which is not that bad but first place got 24 points! I am looking forward to seeing how that person achieved those results as I think it could be the bonus points that got him there. This was pretty fun so I hope I can do this more often in the future as well. I guess I now have to find something else to watch although I intend to watch this season once more to see if I feel any better about it in one run.
