I struggled to think about posting a periodic update on one of my goals for this year which is to remain active to improve my fitness. However, after the month I have had of many challenges that would have normally prevented me from many goals and the fact that I was able to actually overcome them, I am proud to post an update. At first, I thought it would not have been very successful this month given these challenges and the struggle to get things done but I was pleasantly surprised when I stepped on the scale over the weekend to see that I have achieved a good amount of progress when it comes to weight.

I had good success starting it out, though the middle part of the month saw me stagnate little bit regarding my weight. However I believe it had more to do with my body and adjusting to the diet then the other factors surrounding my efforts. I have committed to a couple of things that in the first month have helped in these efforts. For example, I am committed to a low carb diet. This hasn’t been the first time so I have grown accustomed to having the foods that I like the most limited in my meals. For whatever reason my body really benefits from the state. I did add into the mix that I have not had a carbonated drink since 2018. This is a feat I would have never thought possible given the amounts I would consume on a daily basis. While I still have the urge to consume them, I have found the will power to avoid them continuously despite having them present in most of the meals I attend outside my house.

One area I feel that I have lacked this month has been in my physical activity. However, the disappointment does not come from quantity instead from quality. I have consistently worked out at least 30 to 40 minutes every day even if that period of time included just a walk on the treadmill. For me, routine is a critical on getting things done as otherwise I would not feel accountable. Due to my time constraints over the past month, I have had to resort to these more low intensity workouts than I would have originally wanted. However, I think that it has been beneficial given the change in my diet as well. In the past, I have often struggled with increasing the intensity of workouts while transitioning to a low-carb diet. So while this was not my intention, I think the results have been positive in terms of the direction of my progress.

With the exception of one week which I was traveling, I was able to do some weight training twice in that week. I have been meaning to step that up to an additional day per week but have not been successful so far. I have also wanted to change the type of weight training I’m doing as the reality is going to the gym with the same equipment every week is not too motivating. I also feel that this is limiting my ability to grow in strength which is something I want to factor in to my fitness as well. Given the lack of time, I have not been able to research some of the alternatives that I know are are out there such as CrossFit. I hope that the coming weeks provide me some time to consider these alternatives but in the meantime I will try to add a day each week to weight training. I will probably target for it to be while I am at home or in the hotel. I will probably make it more targeted towards my core which I have left behind for a number of months. I think I often feel the difference even in doing cardio as my core feels out of balance. It could also be what I am needing to improve my overall strength.

At the center of my efforts remains the motivation I receive from being a part of the @actifit community. I often wake up tired or unmotivated given how busy it is has been this month but the fact that I have the @actifit application actively monitoring my activity provides me with the accountability to persist with my efforts. I often prepare for my bedtime with my daughter and see I am a couple of hundred steps away from my goal so I get up and walk around the house or get some chores done. While seemingly only motivated for the rewards associated with the project, I feel that the positive changes occuring in my fitness and health are the main objectives.

While any progress is better than none, I still feel that I am behind on my efforts to improve my fitness and health in the short term. The time constraints that I have been experiencing are the major cause of this feeling but I am happy that I have continued to follow the efforts of maintaining my diet and remaining active. While the gym is already starting to see a substantial reduction in population, I continue to grind away and improving my health. I still don’t feel the progress I want if I compare to the clothing I am wearing, but I think that’ll all fall in its place if I am able to continue. I am happy to share my journey using the ecosystem as it will serve as not only a reminder for future efforts but also as a guide for those looking for motivation to change their lifestyle.

Have you looked into one of those health bet sites. My wife has had some ok success with them. I think she did $20 bets and ended up making like 25$ back for 5$ profit. Its not much and a pretty bad risk to reward but it kept her motivated to help loose some extra weight (assuming weight loss is your main goal).

I have not to be honest but sounds interesting. Though I am kind of cheap to put any money where I can lose it. However, although the main metric is weight I have seen a good oace of where I am now and really want to focus on my body composition instead of weight which tougher to gauge.

Great progress for the first month! Keep up to good effort!

So far, so good! Only one month in though...

Maintaining your goal to be active despite being busy with so many other things is quite an accomplishment in itself. Many people would take the easy way out and use a busy schedule to take a break from exercising. That level of motivation and dedication is impressive. Keep it up!!

It has been made possible mostly by my discipline in being able to get up early and focus on it first. It also sets the tone for the rest of the day! I am on the treadmill right now getting the heart pumping as I catch up on my feed!

Those are some solid numbers to have for the month and it's great to be hitting your target on a consistent basis. Everything else can fall into place with the extra training and weight loss since your staying active enough. Nicely done.

The hardest part is starting and setting a routine so I hope it is downhill from here! Thanks!
