Album Review. Cage9 – Hypesthesia (2019)

in #music7 years ago (edited)

Hello!

I continue to bend my musical metal line. And this time, at the hearing latest creation of Panaman-American hard rockers Cage9.

During the twenty-six years of its existence, the group did not often experiment with genre elements, and mostly in studio works it was possible to hear alt-metal, the same hard-rock and post-grunge.

“Hypesthesia” is a great sounding alternative metal, bordering on modern rock. Unfortunately, I am not very familiar with previous releases, so there will be no comparisons. However, this work touched me. Brutal music, moderate speed, atmosphere, great solos and excellent vocals. By the way, the frontman's manner of singing is somewhat similar to the style of Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge.

Hypesthesia is a physical loss of sensation and the girl with a bunch of needles in the body became a good solution to illustrate the audio material. Almost the entire album is a rhythmic battle with a touch of hopelessness and solo guitar performances. From time to time, frontman screaming, but reasonable, where need to strengthen the rhythmic part. Vocalist in this regard did not overdo it and got to the point. There is no superfluous senseless vocal split, which young bands like to overpower the album.

I don't really like computer experiments with vocals. When a voice is driven through a bunch of conversions, it sounds too unnatural. In this regard, I would put a minus for the title track "Hypesthesia". Following her hypnotic "Dance The Macabre" eliminates perception and reincarnates the belief that the studio tape will continue to disturb nerves.

But I suggest listening to The Vertigo. Just for its speed.

I ask you to pay special attention to “Wasteland” composition. Despite the interesting material on the studio record, the monotony is heard in the songs. “Wasteland” from another test. She even reminded me something of pushy industrial. In addition, there is a diverse rhythmic section, which from time to time stirs the mind.

«Say hello to the Wasteland…»

Actually, apart from the moments mentioned in the title track, there are no obviously bad things in the album. Each track is catchy in its own way, bright, self-sufficient and moderately saturated with good musical solutions.

At first glance, it seems that “Rooster” is a lyrical hypeesthesia geek. The dance song is not at all what the listener is waiting for after nine percussion tracks. But, damn it, this super track is a huge ripe cherry of the album.

And the funny thing is that only from the third audition I recognized in it “Rooster” of Alice In Chains. Atypical cover with a slow rhythm and a cool arrangement. And once again I bow to the frontman.

I don’t know why, but “Expectations” became my favorite. This six-minute composition with all its monotony and hopelessness is chic. The ideal and atmospheric climax of "Hypesthesia."

On this thoughtful note, the new chapter of Cage9 is coming to an end. I hope was interesting.

Thanks for visiting and come again.
