If you like rocks, minerals, gems - this is the tag right for you - #fridaysrock. Its creator @nat-expressions is encouraging us to use it any day of the week, not only on Fridays.

TURQUOISE

Today, I proudly present the little piece of turquoise with nice blue colour.

The mineral is opaque and can be found in blue or green. It has been treasured as a gemstone for many years. It was well known to the ancient Egyptians and Greeks as well as in Percia and in America. The name turquoise was first used in 17th century in Europe and meant Turkish, because the first minerals arrived through Turkey from Asia.

The black veins on the stone are inclusions of the host rock and are known as matrix.

The gems clear from the matrix are more preferable. However the matrix could be so fine and vast that cannot be excluded and the gems appeared with that fine web alike pattern.

There are four more minerals that form the turquoise group - aheylite, chalcosiderite, faustite, and planerite. Also there are artificial turquoise gems.

I like the mineral as it is, not made as a jewel. And this is because it is not translucent. If I have to choose a jewel with a stone it won't be turquoise.
What is your favourite gemstone? Most people have their preferences based on the zodiac signs. Are you one of them, or your choice is based on what you really like?

Thank you for stopping by.

That is a nice looking nugget. Do you know which mine it came from?

I like the cabochons that have matrix mixed in with the turquoise.

Thank you very much for stopping by. :-)
I am afraid I don't know where it came from.

So nice! I never thought turquoise looks loke chocolate rasin! Lovely, I love unpolished rocks and minerals. They are beautiful in their own ways for me.

That is so cool to compare it with chocolate rasin. 😀

Thank you for using the #fridaysrock tag! I enjoyed both the pictures and the information. I did not know about the black lines. I also didn't know that there were multiple kinds.

I read now more about the minerals. It is quite interesting to find something more for what we have.

I agree! And I love that everyone is sharing all that they are finding.

I really love turquoise gemstones @nelinoeva Thanks for sharing such interesting information and images with great colour and textures.

Thank you very much! Glad you like them, The gemstones are so interesting and I have few more to show in the next #fridaysrock.
