Nadja Elena Komaneci

Nadja Elena Komaneci is a former Romanian gymnast who, in a two-seated exercise at the Olympic Games in 1976 in Montreal, won the highest possible rating of 10 in the history of gymnastics.

Komaneči began to train gymnastics at the age of six, at Bela Karol, in a gymnastics school that was in the immediate vicinity of her home. At the age of nine she began to compete and with ten she had already performed at international competitions.

She achieved the first major international success at the European Championship, when she won the championship in all individual disciplines, except in the ground where she was the other. In 1975, she was already declared the gymnast of the year. She won the title of the European champion two more times, in 1977 and 1979, thus setting the record.
