MEXICANS NEED HELP TOO
If the US were to be Mexico, would the world plead that the US be pardoned? Mexico has been in the middle of a huge migration debate as to why thousands of Mexicans should leave their homeland in search of a better life and better prospects. Every day, hundreds of Mexicans embark on that fearful journey to the US regardless of fierce immigration laws limiting them. They would instead take that risk and leave the shores of Mexico to the US.
The Department of Homeland Security in the US is sometimes overwhelmed by the illegal migration figures. Mexico has the highest number of illegal migrants in the US, with adults and children finding their way across the border and getting into the US by any means. Donald Trump, in his campaigns, had said that he would build the border wall between the US and Mexico to prevent the spate of illegal migration. The citizens of the US took this in and were happy about this development.
The Mexicans who flee from their homes have so many reasons they do so. One such reason is corruption. They complain that the corruption in their country stands in opposition to the nation's growth and development hence the need to flee to a place with greener pastures. They also site drug peddling, poverty, and unemployment as an offshoot of corruption. To them, the US has better prospects when it comes to employment and security.
But how can the US be of help to Mexico without interfering in the sovereignty of Mexico? Should the US not look for a solution on behalf of Mexico just so the influx of illegal migrants can be reduced drastically? How about a form of collaboration on the part of Mexico and the US? If all is well with Mexico, we would have fewer persons leaving the comfort of their homes to go to a strange land. Why would someone leave a country that offers him citizenship to a country where he is referred to as an asylum seeker? Think about it, everyone wants the comfort of motherland, but when motherland lacks the necessary warmth, they run in search of a better life.
Do I think the US has been unfair to Mexico in terms of immigration policies? I doubt. The US should not be quick to call all Mexicans criminals. The menial jobs the Mexicans long for should be given to them. The citizens of the US have said that the Mexicans come in and take positions that belong to them, and they try as much as they can to fight it. Donald Trump also promotes this idea by preaching love for one's country. He believes that people should stay in their country and get things right instead of moving to another country.
But staying back in one's country does not guarantee that things would get better. America can allow innocent citizens of Mexico to remain in America while making ends meet. Children are always at the receiving end of this fight between the US and Mexican immigrants as most of them go hungry for days while their parents flee from homeland security.
It is not the fault of Mexicans that things are not so perfect in their country. All hands should be on deck to proffer solutions to this dire situation. Mexicans love to stay back in their country if things turn out well.
