BAYELSA REMAINS TENSED FOUR DAYS AFTER ELECTIONS

The polity in Bayelsa state is still tensed as political stalwarts have continued to point fingers left, right, and centre. The politicians on the losing side are not finding this funny as they have never failed the blame the electoral umpire, the security agencies, and worst of all, the opposition political party.

Shortly after the election, the major opposition party had in a press briefing asked the electoral umpire to declare their party winner in last Saturday's election.

Also, the governor of Rivers state, a neighbouring state, had told journalists that enemies had invaded Bayelsa state. He said this in reaction to the taking over of Bayelsa state by an opposition party.

He did not find the news of his party's loss funny because the South-South region of Nigeria is dominated by the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

PDP's loss is a shocking one given that former President Goodluck Jonathan, who is a member of PDP hails from the state. His influence alone was supposed to give the PDP an edge, but we did not see that paly out. The most embarrassing of it all is that APC won in his local government area, which leaves much to be desired. The former president has come out to say he is a father to all Nigerians regardless of your political affiliation.

Meanwhile, the governor of Bayelsa state has insinuated that the former president was used against the will of his people.

According to him, Jonathan's name was used to legitimize illegitimacy. He accused the former president of being on the part of the opposition party and sidelining his party.

It is typical of Nigerian politicians to accuse one another after the elections. More allegations would still come up in the coming days until the court lays to rest all matters concerning the election.
