Quarantining is a privilege

The pandemic does not stop and spreads to other regions, as it reaches Latin America with a socioeconomic situation very different from that of Europe, the USA or China, it causes new scenarios to arise and raise new questions.

The reality of millions of people who expect the worst, in countries already involved in political wars, crime, drug trafficking and much poverty, the virus threatens to land in some of the most fragile regions of the planet, which makes it a matter of seriously the question to die of covid or starve.

In many developed countries and their governments they have to send a very important message to stop the curve, stay at home and this is a very important and at the same time very effective message that clearly works on the side of the developed world.

But the reality is very different, for example in countries like Colombia, Venezuela or Mexico, we speak that in Colombia alone there are 1.1 million people living in multidimensional poverty, we speak of informal jobs, people who live from day to day, people for whom staying at home is not an option, staying at home is a privilege that very few percentage of us can assume.

Many in those developed countries lock themselves up at home with government aid or not, if you can do it, you are privileged and yes, if we are all losing money and letting things be done that we would like to do, although just being able to allow yourself to be locked up is a great privilege. Luckily, very few people really can afford it, there are people who really have to choose between the virus or hunger.

Get the idea of ​​the dimension of chaos, in Rio Brasil, in favelas of 500 thousand people, the virus has entered creating a truly desperate situation, the gravity of this chaos should review the context a little the socio-economic and political panorama, in the region, and that unfortunately this is extensible to other countries.

And yes, I know, we have been told that the virus that does not distinguish between rich and poor, that affects everyone equally, however, yesterday we saw that our fictitious order that we have all embraced to live in society shows that not all of us are really equal, you are born rich and you are born poor and not exposing yourself to the virus is a privilege that very few of us can allow, we also saw yesterday that governments have taken an unequal part in this fight, we have them from those who have been more radical and They have taken more severe measures earlier and there are more relaxed and have hardly intervened.

The good news is that we can also take part in this situation, we are part of the solution, the knowledge we have here and our condition empowers us to make decisions, to act, so this is no longer a game of governments, each one can contribute in many ways, for example if you are one of the privileged who can subsist without leaving home do not leave home and help the community in whatever way possible.

This situations a drama that repeats day by day, that is out of control and that we do not know what will happen, we cannot even imagine when this will end, it seems to take this threat very, very seriously, this is no political or ideological message of any kind, is a call to reason, common sense and if possible solidarity these three things are more necessary today than ever.
