A robottaxi designed for you

No driver, no steering wheel, no pedals

Imagine opening an application on your cell phone, requesting a ride, and minutes later a car arrives at you. Yes, I know, that already exists, but what if it were driverless, without a steering wheel, without pedals, just a comfortable, air-conditioned space with a cell phone charger, ambient music, and artificial intelligence at the helm. Amazon says it is about to deliver exactly that with its zoox autonomous mobility division.

They have just opened a gigantic factory in California with more than 20,000 m² and the goal is to produce more than 10,000 robotaxis per year and the most impressive thing is that these vehicles are totally different from any car you have ever seen, each unit is a capsule on wheels designed from scratch to be 100% autonomous.

Zoox Features

The sensor system is a veritable technological arsenal of lidar, radar cameras, even infrared, all to ensure that the vehicle sees it better than a human driver, day or night, rain or shine.

These vehicles are quite beautiful, but before taking to the streets each zoox robotaxi goes through a battery of quality tests that goes far beyond aesthetics, they test the clearance of the wheels, the calibration of the sensors, the resistance of the braking system and even simulate artificial storms to ensure that the sealing against water is perfect, then the vehicle goes to the outdoor test track where engineers monitor in real time how it reacts to different scenarios, sudden braking, sharp curves, obstacles unexpected.

Everything is registered and adjusted before delivery, inside the experience is four seats placed one in front of the other, each with individual temperature control, wireless charger for the cell phone and a side screen that shows the route, the estimated time of arrival, and of course allows you to choose your favorite soundtrack.

The robot taxi reaches up to 72 km per hour and was designed to operate safely on urban journeys. Initially, the service will be launched in Las Vegas, but the company already has plans to expand to San Francisco, Austin and Miami in the coming years.
