Maldevta - a mirror to see old Dehradun

Dehradun is nothing like it used to be. The river streams are narrower to make space for wider roads. More colonies have come up where the forest area used to be; the forest area where we as kids, would go for day hikes. Not very long ago, I came across an article that talked about how Dehradun had lost the charm that originally attracted the Britishers to come here and set up their holiday homes, and how nature trails eventually made way for metalled roads. But Maldevta still hold those good old days.

The Maldevta bridge is close to Rispana Valley, which is considered a heritage site. The Rispana Valley had an ancient route used by caravans to reach Mussoorie and nearby villages for trade and will come on your way to Maldevta. On this hike, you can visit both these locations. You can pay obeisance here or surrender yourself to the beauty of this comely place.

Famous for cradling the Song River, having icy cold waters Maldevta is a perfect summer retreat for Doonites. To beat the heat, you can visit Maldevta between the summer months of April to June and have a splish-splash in the water.

Maldevta still retain the old canal system once present in whole Dehradun. It is the only living canal now sigh.
