@FARMS TUESDAY WEEK THEME: SIMPLE FARM TOOLS
Farming is an activity that one can't really do and do away with some tools, i mean some tools are there you just need to have them. Although in our contemporary society a lot of new ways of doing things have come to replace lots of the old methods of doing things we still got to have them around. And am really glad that today through @farms and @steemchurch community we get to revise and learn about some of these crude farm tools once again.
First and foremost lets talk about the machete or cutlass, farmers still use the machete up to this day though, i really doubt a farmer can do away with a machete, anyway enough of my long talks, back to the main point. So machete is mostly used to weed the weeds (see what i did there? haha), after growing your crops the unneeded plants tend to grow alongside you crop and if you leave it, it may end up taking more of the nutrients that you would want only you crops to have, if that happens then you should know that your crop may not grow to the optimal size you probably were looking for, if you added fertilizer to your crops too then it becomes a greater loss. So that's when the cutlass comes in. However that's not the only purpose of the cutlass, as the name suggest cut-lass, so it is also used to cut things that needs cutting in the farm or garden (lemme hasten to add since it's not all of us that have farms), so if you need to do some prunning to allow proper ventilation in your farm you can go ahead and lift you cutlass to do some cutting.
Alryt now let me say something small about the hoe too, the whole is indeed a crude farm tool, very simple and easy to use, from where i come from we used it to weed just like the cutlass and also make moulds, especially during yam planting but not limited to yam planting only. The hoe is more or less associated with the female gender, because they find it easier to use than the cutlass since it requires less effort.
I am gonna wrap up by talking about the sickle, it is a tool mostly used for harvesting grains and forages. This one has been in existence for as long as man can remember, i mean since the iron age? That's a long time and even in our modern technological tools some of the harvesting machines make use of the sickle. So the sickle is what you will need to get some grass for your farm animals, it is what you will need to haverst your cereals and crops like that of the sugarcane too.
So in summation, these simple farm tools looks simple and are indeed simple in their construction however that doesn't make them any less important. These are however not the only simple farm tools though, there is the rake, the spade, the shovel even wheelbarrows serve as simple farm tools ust to mention a few, hopefully we will get the chance to discuss others later on.
Thanks for talking out time to point this amazing fact
