Progress in a rainstorm! Our first free project.

in #gardening8 years ago

It rained today! ...kinda. and it decided to rain about ten minutes into an hour long project. It was quite providential. It was a cooling rain, not a soaking rain.

A few weeks ago we cleaned off the carport. It was covered a few inches deep and I cleaned off 8 feet around the edge. There was a lot of organic matter up there that I didn't know what to do with. So I let it sit in the front yard and Melissa got mad. Today Sam and I put it to use.

We put all those leaves, acorns, and pine needles on the South bed. We also expanded the bed about two feet. It's now about 6X10 feet at least. And the material is probably 10 inches deep.

But wait! There's more!

We mulched the pecan trees in the southwest corner cause we had a bin and a half left. The census is in, and there are ten pecan trees here. I'm gonna let them get bigger then put them where I want. I want the entire yard shaded cause nothing grows in the full Texas sun. It would be even better if the shade gave us pecan pie.

Part of this project is going to be watching and learning the trees. I want to know when they'll be giving fruit. I want to know what I can plant with and under them at different stages. At what stage can I plant a tomato bush under them to support the tomatoes? When will they be able to give us beautiful yellow fall leaves to go with our red oak? There are more trees in the alley and the neighbor's yard within view without prying, so this process is starting immediately.

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed it. :) Another project starts tomorrow! We're building a rabbit cage as cheap as we can. Remember, we just sealed the purse strings. The ideas are flying and I can't wait to share the progress, so stick around!
