Thanks to a couple of short naps last night, I survived the weekend to go turn out the chickens this morning. It's gonna be a while before I do that to myself again, however enjoyable it was in the moment.

My rest was supreme, and I woke up for dinner with the fam. There's comfort in such routines.

Nerds on a stoop

It's spring. The season of doing things. In the spirit of doing things, I've been focusing on my favorite quote from Joel Salatin:

"Do something!"

Tomorrow morning after work, the plan is to dig some rows for some corn. I'd decided at first not to grow corn because of the low yields last year, but I'm resolved to doing a better job tending it this year, and the crop will go towards chicken feed, which is much excite. Having that end goal in mind helps. I've been working on pulling weeds in any unmulched growing spaces, and I'm saving rabbit poop special for those places too. As I sit here thinking on it, things are lining up really neatly in my mind, this is gonna be fun...

Rabbit feed is on sale, so I'll be stocking up when I get paid Friday. I hope to get five more litters before the end of the breeding season in May. Besides the two litters we have growing at the moment. That should get me close to the fifty hides I need for a blanket, which will be a great summer project. Tanning, stretching, and weaving the hides into a blanket has been a goal of mine ever since starting the rabbitry.

I'm getting very excited to eat rabbit on a regular basis. Not even just as a stored food, but a fresh harvest when it's in season will be awesome. After having the fresh pan fried organs, I'm totally turned on to that.

Well, it's posting time, so I'm gonna hit post and get back to work stuff. Short one today, but lots of ideas coming from it. Thanks for reading my little rant and brainstorm... More on that corn spot tomorrow :)
