March 11, 2021: Springtime Medicine, A New Fence, and Thank YOU

in Tribe Steem Up!3 years ago

I stayed up late today, as is the new system for thursdays. That eases the stress of staying up so late on Fridays, I really like it. Another day to make progress, and an easier Friday, which is usually a day of big progress as well. Why I didn't think of this the last time I was working nights is beyond me. I guess a couple years added a bit if wisdom. Hey, dummy, quit stressing yourself so much!

So in my newfound stresslessness (don't care, it's a word now, get over it), I set out to make progress. It was great. I had a margarita and got to busting out some fencing.

I found out that the posts in our fence are ten feet apart, and the boards I bought are eight feet long. That doesn't work so good in most fencing situations, so I got the gates done and will go to the hardware store tomorrow morning for a few posts to divide those sections into five foot sections. It'll be snazzy, just watch. A little more expensive, but stronger and it also won't look pieced together. Any leftover bits of wood will be made into bird houses and bat houses and either hung up, gifted, or sold. That'll be a fun little project too, I've been wanting more bats and birds around.

As I was cleaning up and talking with Melissa about maybe row cropping some sorghum, she asked "what kind of weed is that?" I looked down and it looks like the mullein seeds from @sagescrub are coming up. Well, one at least. I'll know soon enough if any of the other million and a half of them are growing...

Mullein pup!

Excited at the newfound security in my mullein supply, I listed some of my stored dry mullein leaf in our community exchanges. I also noticed with glee that our pine trees are setting a considerable amount of pollen catkins. It must be spring or something! Pine pollen has become a dear friend to me in the last year of working with it. Any time I don't MUST have a good day, pine pollen. That little testosterone boost is awesome. I'm careful not to overuse it, so I don't use it regularly like my mushroom tinctures, but it's been a good ally to have around. I'm actually wondering if I should plant some spores of Amanita muscaria around my pine trees, as it's supposed to really help the health of evergreens. A little way to help support the ecosystem that supports me. But I haven't researched any issues that may cause with any of our other trees. Gotta look into it.

Pine pollen coming on

In preparation for pigs, I'm starting to look at materials. The consistent blog posting here lately is affording me a bit more funding for such things so that I don't have to stress my family finances. I'm appreciating all the community love here lately 💚 I'll be setting up an automatic waterer for the rabbits this weekend, as the pats should arrive sometime Friday. I'm looking at sugar drip sorghum seeds for a bit if supplemental fodder and syrup production on the homestead. This kind of thing wasn't possible a week ago, so I'm pretty excited. Thank y'all for that, sincerely. I'll be sure and post updates with what I'm doing with any liquid funds. What's also cool is that it's going to afford me the luxury of stopping my power down on Hive, so I'll actually be building my stake back up. All good vibes. IDK why I ever slowed down so much on posting, and I'm glad to be back at it.

Gonna go get some work done now. Lots to plan and think on!

Love from Texas

Nate 💚

Hey there Nate! It's been a while since you posted this thread, but I just wanted to say that I'm glad to see you're making progress on your fencing project and finding ways to repurpose leftover wood. That's super awesome! I totally get the stress that comes with managing a property and trying to keep everything in order. But it sounds like your new system is helping you out and that's great news! As for those pesky pigs, have you figured out a solution to protect your pine trees yet? Maybe you can try using some rock solid vinyl fencing? Anyway, keep up the good work and keep sharing your progress with us! It's always inspiring to see people working hard to improve their spaces.
