Doing What I Don't Do

The computer has been wonky this past week and as living life slowly and mindfully has become more of a priority, fixing the computer became less important- but here I am... One day committed to thoughts, ponderings and ideas and the others to sharing a book, website, person, etc. I find inspiring or worth checking out.

As for today I will share a concept I've had on my mind this past week- "Do What I Don't Do" I remember reading this on someone else's blog recently- if you know who's it was please tell me because I can't seem to find it again.) At first I disregarded it, then the idea kept coming back to mind- do what I don't do which caused me to think more about what I do do...(I just wrote do-do ha! ha!) So in small ways I started to make a few shifts...

 ㋛  For instance I let my daughter tear apart my closet to transform into her "store" at which I bought things and she accessorized me...I even wore one of the ensembles into public (think zebra striped dress with blue piping- why do I own that you ask? It was cool at the time. And didn't look half bad that Wednesday afternoon at the library if I do say so myself.)

               

 ㋛  I also usually wade into a pool, lake or ocean, carefully measuring each inch so as to not chill, but I just jumped right in! 

 ㋛  I took a cat nap one afternoon which was delightful.

  

  

 ㋛  One morning I also slept in to 8:45 am...something I don't think I've done in 10 years.

 ㋛  I've been using less and less plastic, being careful about what I buy, the packaging and how I might reuse or recycle it.

 ㋛  I also let my kids stay up until whenever...no bedtime one night- wow!!

 ㋛  I've been paying careful attention to how I talk to them, my tone, what words I chose, my intention, etc. 

 ㋛  Climbing up on the roof with my daughter who wanted to check it out...and me being ever so slightly afraid of heights wasn't entirely enthusiastic about the idea, but did it nonetheless. 

 ㋛  In doing what I don't do is a continual practice, forcing me to be more aware of what I do do and the benefits include greater self-awareness, trying new things, generating a new or different outcome than the old way and perhaps surprising even ourselves.
