UEFA Champions League - Part 43

The 1997-98 Champions League was the 43th version of this tournament, and the fifth season where the name of the tournament was changed from “European Cup” to “UEFA Champions League”. It was held between 17 September 1997 and 20 May 1998.

24 clubs competed in the tournament. 85 matches were played with 239 goals scored. An average of 2.81 goals per match.

Four clubs were able to qualify to the semi-finals; Juventus, Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Monaco.

The final game of the tournament was held in Amsterdam Arena, Amsterdam, in 20 May 1998 between Real Madrid and Juventus. The Spanish club was able to win the the final game 1-0.

It was the Seventh European title for Spanish giants and champions Real Madrid.

“Alessandro Del Piero” from Juventus was named the top goalscorer of the tournament, scoring 10 goals each one of them in the 1997-1998 UEFA Champions League.
