Photoshop drawing deer with maple フォトショップ５　花札の鹿に楓

Anybody still remember Photoshop 5 ?

Well, this is it. I draw this with it ...20 years ago, time flys!
There are 2 main theme in this drawing: apocalypse and Hanafuda.

In 1997 I moved back from the States to do my study at Yokohama, Japan.

So I engaged with few clubs to make friends and have fun, and the senior engineering student of anime/cartoon club introduced us juniors, how to use Photoshop to make drawing with computer.
Till then we were completely analogue, using ink and pen. Yes, the one you dip the pen into.

We were enlightened!!

It was in my 3rd year, I did this drawing. Now I think back that time. The technology and gadget craze Japanese people was facing Y2K problem, almost panicking.
Time was exactly an end of century.

At the same time, I was fascinated by Japanese culture. And this Hanafuda is one of them.

It is a traditional card game of Japan. The game itself has its own rule to follow.

The design of each card is very lovely and sophisticated with Japanese style compositions and colors to admire.
Each card has seasonal plants and animals used on 1 side, and all of them has slightly different designs even it has a common plants.

So I picked this deer with maple as my first Hanafuda series.

I done my sketch with pencil on paper, and scanned it.

The atmosphere is deteriorating, metallic maple tree is rusted and cables are exposed, robotic deer half destroyed and wandering....dooms day for sure.
